Baidu's self-driving bus began operations in Zhengdong New District on December 2, and a new project was added to Zhengzhou, which aims to become the "first city of autonomous driving".
The first batch of 10 self-driving buses put into operation, with a cruising speed of nearly 40 kilometers per hour, operating lines of Zhongyi Road, Business Inner Ring Road, Jiuru Road and Financial Island Central, with a total length of 12.9km.
At the launching ceremony, the reporter saw that 12 gray Golden Dragon buses were lined up on both sides, and there were lidar and cameras on its "top of the head", "cheek" and "forehead".
According to reports, the L4 level autonomous driving buses put into operation this time are 5.9 meters long, as an autonomous bus for open road operation, these buses can be fully autonomous without special lanes, and mixed with ordinary vehicles in a complex urban traffic environment.
According to the technical staff of Baidu's automatic driving, this batch of autonomous buses has 4 lidar, 2 millimeter wave radar, and 7 monocular cameras to help vehicles detect various types of information during driving.
Combined with V2X vehicle-road collaboration, it can realize L4-level vehicle-road collaborative perception driving with intelligent network-side equipment, which can receive high-precision perception data of all traffic participants on the road surface collected by the roadside intelligent perception system in real time, reflect the current pedestrian, car and other information on the road, including blind spots that cannot be seen by the driver's perspective in the car, etc. to the inside screen of the car, and even predict the traffic light changes and waiting time in advance, so that the vehicle can make decisions and plan in advance and improve the traffic efficiency.
These self-driving buses have undergone safety function upgrades. The vehicle's autonomous driving system has redundant safety capabilities, which can quickly take over the vehicle when the main system fails occasionally. The bus line has also been intelligently transformed, and the roadside intelligent equipment transmits the road blind area information to the car end to help the vehicle take emergency measures in advance and improve traffic safety.
The relevant person in charge of the Construction and Environmental Protection Bureau of the Zhengdong New District Management Committee of Zhengzhou City said that this project is a real L4 level autonomous driving bus, which is currently the most automated vehicles in a single project in China and the most complex operating environment of the autonomous bus line. In the future, Zhengdong New District will work with Baidu Apollo and other autonomous driving enterprises to promote the landing of diversified autonomous driving applications such as microcirculation minibuses, autonomous taxis, unmanned logistics vehicles, unmanned sweepers, and automatic parking, and boost the construction of Zhengzhou National Central City.
In the field of driverless buses, Zhengzhou has a certain first-mover advantage, in August 2015, the autonomous bus was opened on Zhengkai Avenue; in May 2019, the world's first autonomous bus line running on the open road started on the wisdom island of Zhengdong New District; Zhengdong New District also built the industry's first unmanned field station, and in June 2020, the first commercially operated autonomous bus line in China was opened for operation.
However, in recent years, Suzhou, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Haikou, Tianjin and other cities have also been deployed in the open road operation of unmanned bus routes, the arrival of Baidu driverless bus, is undoubtedly an important layout for Zhengzhou to accelerate the construction of "the first city of automatic driving".
