After a year and a half, the US Navy's Truman was once again deployed

author:Observer.com

The U.S. Navy's Eighth Aircraft Carrier Strike Group (CSG 8), which is part of the USS Truman (CVN-75), departed Wednesday from Norfolk, Virginia, for a scheduled deployment. This is the first time the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Truman has been deployed since it was maintained in mid-2020. After the "Truman" is on duty, it will solve the current problem of the Lack of aircraft carriers in the United States outside the Asia-Pacific region.

The Eighth Carrier Strike Group, commanded by Rear Admiral Curt Renshaw, included the USS Truman, the First Carrier Carrier Wing (CVW1), and the USS San Jacinto Cruise Building (CG 56), using the USS Truman, using the USNI News website reported on Dec. 2. As usual, the USS Truman will carry four squadrons of attack fighters, an electronic attack squadron, an airborne early warning squadron of an aircraft carrier, a helicopter maritime combat squadron, and a maritime helicopter strike squadron.

In terms of escort ships, the Eighth Aircraft Carrier Strike Group was escorted by the 28th Destroyer Squadron, which included the destroyers Cole (DDG 67), Banbridge (DDG 96), Gravely (DDG 107) and Jason Dunham (DDG 109).

The Royal Norwegian Navy frigate Nansen (F310) is working with the Eighth Carrier Strike Group through a cooperative deployment plan and may participate in joint duty with the Eighth Aircraft Carrier Strike Group in the future.

The USS Truman is one of the few aircraft carriers on the East Coast of the United States that can be used and has been frequently deployed over the years. At the end of 2019, the "Truman" aircraft carrier was deployed in the Middle East, followed by a "back-to-back" deployment (referring to the aircraft carrier's two consecutive duty during the deployment cycle and then put into maintenance) in the early 20-year epidemic period, and a two-month maintenance cruise on the Virginia coast. In July 2020, after two "back-to-back" deployments, the USS Truman entered the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for routine maintenance.

Truman attended pre-deployment training after ending a 10-month maintenance period in May. The entire Eighth Carrier Strike Group completed a pre-deployment Compound Training Cell Exercise (COMPTUEX) on October 26, demonstrating that the Carrier Strike Group was combat ready and capable of conducting integrated maritime operations and joint operations.

During COMPTUX, Truman's CSG also participated in a massive NATO wargame exercise. According to the information released, this wargame deduction is the largest one organized by the strike brigade. The U.S. Navy did not disclose the content of the wargame exercise, but it may be related to the recent situation in eastern Ukraine.

After the "Truman" is on duty, it will solve the current problem of the Lack of aircraft carriers in the United States outside the Asia-Pacific region. At present, except for the "Carl Vinson" aircraft carrier in the Indo-Pacific region, the US military has no aircraft carrier on duty in other parts of the world.
