Russia urges foreign partners not to follow the United States to draw a "democratic dividing line"

MOSCOW, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its official website on December 1 that Russia urged all foreign partners not to follow the United States in drawing a "democratic dividing line" ahead of the so-called "Leaders' Democratic Summit."

"We urge all foreign partners not to draw a dividing line but to return to respect for the norms of international law and to recognize in practice the sovereign equality of States as stipulated in the UN Charter," the statement said. ”

The statement said that the U.S. rhetoric about democracy is not only completely divorced from reality, but also very hypocritical. The Russian Foreign Ministry urged the US side to solve its own problems before "exporting democracy" and bridge the growing moral and value divisions in its own society.

The statement said that the United States tries to play the role of "global democratic leader", but its long-standing problems in freedom of expression, electoral system and other aspects have exposed the self-proclaimed "beacon of democracy" title of the United States and its allies has long been untenable.

In August, the White House issued a statement saying U.S. President Joe Biden would convene a "Leaders' Democracy Summit." In September, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out at the general debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly that the so-called "Leaders' Democratic Summit" held by the United States was based on a Cold War mentality and was essentially an attempt to divide the international community into enemies and enemies.
