Life-saving or principled? Sun Hao, the last emperor of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period, taught us a good lesson

author:We are talking about the Three Kingdoms

In our real life, there are often at least two options for encountering a thing, and each way will have corresponding benefits and costs. But especially in the work environment, how many people are on the wrong path to dealing with the differences between leadership and adherence to principles.

Life-saving or principled? Sun Hao, the last emperor of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period, taught us a good lesson

Looking at ancient times, when the imperial power was relatively strong, the phenomenon of the king letting the subjects die had to die was more. But if the ancient Son of Heaven held power but encountered a fork in the road between justice and obedience, how would the ministers consider gains and losses? Today, with an example from the Three Kingdoms period, I will talk about the bumpy experience of a minister at the end of Eastern Wu.

According to the law or according to people?

In the late Eastern Wu period of the Three Kingdoms, there was a minister named Lou Xuan (楼玄), who was a Pei Commandery (沛郡蕲人). During the period of Sun Xiu, he served as the superintendent of agriculture and was in charge of agriculture. After Sun Hao succeeded to the throne, he served with Wang Fan, Guo Kui, Wan Yu and others as the permanent attendants of the Scattered Horse. Not long after, Lou Xuan was also appointed as the auditor taishou brushing his resume and returned to the dynasty to take up the post of Grand Si Nong.

At that time, Sun Hao also constantly hoped that someone could become his close subject and cultivate his own power. So he arranged for a person named Wan Yu to recommend a close minister to himself. Because of his old feelings, Lou Xuan was recommended and served as the forbidden waitress of the town under the palace, in charge of the work of the palace guards. Although the position is the head of the guard, for Sun Hao, his actual role is still a member of the think tank.

Lou Xuan may not have figured out Sun Hao's pulse, and often led by example in his work, completely following the rules or regulations of Eastern Wu to implement everything. In the face of Sun Hao's gains and losses in handling things, Lou Xuan often did not shy away from directly intimidating the past. Sun Hao's temper should be known to everyone, that is, he could not tolerate people who disagreed with him, and gradually became dissatisfied with Lou Xuan. It coincided with the fact that some speculators framed Lou Xuan and He Shao for forming a party for personal gain and slandering political affairs. Sun Hao seized the opportunity to pursue responsibility and exiled Lou Xuan to the Guangzhou area.

Pig teammates who ask for the wrong feelings

After learning the news of Lou Xuan's exile, the Eastern Wu minister Hua Xuan wrote a letter to advise Sun Hao, which was originally a good intention, but who knew the final result but harmed his old friend Lou Xuan. Let's take a look at what Hua Fu really said.

Life-saving or principled? Sun Hao, the last emperor of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period, taught us a good lesson

Hua Yan believes that governing the country is like ruling the family. The person in charge of field work should be a virtuous person. In addition, find a person who is in charge of things and formulates a program. Only in this way can a family be well governed. The Analects once mentioned that "the only person who does nothing and makes the world rule is probably Shun." Just make yourself sit respectfully facing south. This allusion means that if the appointment is competent, then one can save oneself a lot of heart.

Hua Yan pointed out that if there are many state affairs that are undecided today, and if you have to ask Your Majesty about matters no matter how big or small, and you must get His Majesty's permission before acting, Then Your Majesty will definitely be entangled in these disturbances. Your Majesty, you are a master of both the past and the present, the master of books, and the prince of diligence and morality. You should go with the flow as you go about your business, so that you can be at peace and quiet and eventually live with Heaven.

Hua Yan said that he thought day and night that the only person among the Manchu officials who could serve as the executor of important affairs and could be trusted enough was Lou Xuan. Lou Xuan is loyal and impartial, is a contemporary model figure, everyone admires his virtues and ethics, and no one will compete with him. Honest people have a straight personality because they have a scale in their hearts, and loyal people can do the right thing according to the rules. People like Lou Xuan can always guarantee noble morality.

Hua Fu requested that His Majesty pardon Lou Xuan for his sins, make him reformed, and promote him to be in charge of various departments of the imperial court. You can ask him to perform well in the future, support him in selecting talents according to the actual situation, and appoint and dismiss officials according to their talents.

Hua Yan stressed that in this way, the scene of respectfully correcting himself to rule the world like Shun would soon be achieved by His Majesty.

Let's think about it a little, what does Sun Hao value most as a monarch? It's the chair under the ass, and you don't let me do everything, ostensibly for me, but as a monarch, anyone who listens to this sentence will be very responsive. Moreover, Hua Yan actually suggested that Lou Xuan be allowed to come back to work in the management department and select talents again, and Sun Hao must not do the risk of forming a "party" in this way.

Sure enough, after Sun Hao saw the letter, he still thought that Lou Xuan's reputation was too high and he was suspected of shaking the lord, so this time he packed Lou Xuan's son and Lou Xuan and exiled him to the Jiaolan area. And Sun Hao also instructed the generals who received his father and son on a secret mission.

Jun let the subject die and the subject had to die?

After Sun Hao exiled Lou Xuan and his son Lou Zhi to the Jiao'an area, they were arranged to join the army there. At the same time, Sun Hao gave the Jiaotong general Zhang Yi a special task, that is, to find an opportunity to get rid of Lou Xuan's father and son. It is said that Lou Xuan's son Lou Zhigang died of illness not long after he arrived in Jiaotong. After Lou Xuan experienced the white-haired people sending the black-haired people, he followed Zhang Yi alone to participate in the military operation to beg thieves.

I don't know what medicine Lou Xuan took, he may have done it out of courtesy or had other plans. Every time Lou Xuan saw Zhang Yi in the army, he would bow down to him. As the saying goes, many people are not strange, Lou Xuan is like this again and again, Zhang Yi even refused to kill Lou Xuan for a while.

For some reason, Zhang Yi died suddenly not long after. When Lou Xuan was collecting the relics before giving Zhang Yi a funeral, he discovered Sun Hao's order for Zhang Yi to kill him. Lou Xuan chose to commit suicide after arranging Zhang Yi's aftermath.

Of course, there is another way to say this story.

According to the Biography of Jiang Biao, Sun Hao ordered Zhang Yi to give Lou Xuan poison to kill him. However, Zhang Yi knew that Lou Xuan was a virtuous person and had not dared to carry out Sun Hao's orders. The paper could not contain the fire, and Lou Xuan later obtained such information from other sources. Lou Xuan plucked up the courage to take the initiative to find Zhang Yi and said: "You should have told me earlier, I have no regrets." ”

After saying that, Lou Xuan took medicine to commit suicide.

Of these two accounts, the historian Pei Songzhi was more willing to accept the "Biography of Jiang Biao". But in any case, Lou Xuan's final practice was indeed regrettable.
