Chapter 13: Networks of Coaches and Experts

Thousands of people are willing to be poor. If you are surrounded by poor people, you will also become poor. Afterwards you will spend the rest of your life complaining about life.

--Richard. DeVos

Reading this book alone does not make us rich. We must create for ourselves an environment that will enable us to succeed.

Near Zhu is red, near ink is black. To follow those who are more successful than us, we should be surrounded by a coach, role models, and a network of experts.

If we are surrounded by successful people, it is easy to be successful.

To get a top-notch mentor, we also have to improve ourselves. We need to have a few achievements that we can handle, or a convincing demeanor, preferably both.

When we ourselves become better. We will also get better mentors.

If we want to build a network of experts, we should always think about what benefits we can provide to others, otherwise what others should give us advice on.

Growing up means taking control of the entire process. We decide for ourselves who we are influenced, who to learn from, what to learn: imitate only those who are more successful than us, and we must do it consciously and selectively.

Habit allows us to do the important and right things automatically and effortlessly. And the key to getting us into habits is those around us. Coaches, role models, and a network of experts are three determinants, and we need a network of experts to help us become the best version of ourselves.

To keep learning and improving ourselves, we must create an environment that forces us to succeed.
