However, in the War of Prohibition of Smoke, Lin Zexu raised a banner of resistance against the British army, and among the countless patriotic generals, the most respected by the British army was this one - the patriotic general of the Qing Dynasty, Guan Tianpei.
First, a martial genius who has risen all the way
Guan Tianpei was born in a humble martial family, when there was a lot of trade between the East and the West, just like what was seen in the movie "Huo Yuanjia", the spirit of nationalism rose, and the martial arts became a very hot business. In the economic and trade zone, Guan Tianpei accumulated capital, did not forget to study hard in the cold window, and was admitted to Xiucai (although it was Wu Xiucai, in the decadent late Qing Dynasty, Wen Xiucai was basically controlled by the family door valve, and it also needed culture to be admitted to Wuxiucai).
Guan Tianpei rose all the way, putting the general, the thousand general, the garrison, the guerrilla, the general... By 1826, the Qing government had personally handed over some important water transport to him. What is this concept? In today's parlance, he's promoted faster than a rocket, and he has no background and doesn't take up a retreat! By 1834, when he was promoted to admiral, he was already the foundation of the entire national defense force. From a small general to the Guangdong admiral, it took only 12 years!
Second, after being transferred to admiralty, he was still diligent in defense
Although the Qing Dynasty implemented the policy of closing the country to the outside world, the commercial enthusiasm of the people could not be stopped by the policy. Guan Tianpei, who was transferred to the admiral of Guangdong, knew exactly what the Qing Dynasty wanted him to do. After being promoted to a high official, Guan Tianpei not only did not eat, drink and have fun, but instead worked hard and was very careful with the trade ports related to Britain.
Moreover, since then, Guan Tianpei has had a sense of combat. He repeatedly revised the defense map of the port of Guangdong and formulated strategic depth, so that once the war began, it could delay the speed of the British army ashore.
At that time, the trade of the Qing Dynasty was mainly concentrated in Guangdong, and Guan Tianpei was born in martial arts, proficient in running ships, and the arrangement of trade matters was also very realistic. Because the Qing Dynasty was actually a trade deficit, the British were tireless in trade, Guan Tianpei deeply felt that the Qing government was powerless to stop the British army, and used his authority to add a number of artillery to the port, and even the British army was a little afraid, thinking that Guan Tianpei must have laid a net of heaven and earth, and once there was a conflict, the British merchant ships would lose their money. However, the plan did not change quickly, and no matter how hard Guan Tianpei tried, he still underestimated the shamelessness of the British army.
Third, behind the tragic war is the selfless dedication of national heroes in coastal defense
In 1839, shameless British troops bypassed the port of Guangdong and brought smoke into China at all costs. Even if it causes a lot of losses, it has also developed the habit of smoking big cigarettes in many regions. After Lin Zexuhumen sold cigarettes, Guan Tianpei took care of defense, cleaning up the inland smoke while restricting the British army on the port. However, the British army already knew that the Qing government was powerless to succeed, as long as the Qing government's border defense ministers were solved and doing business in the Qing government, it was like entering no man's land.
After three years of bribery, Lin Zexu consumed all means and was investigated by the cool officials. Guan Tianpei, who was guarding Guangdong, received orders and was ready to hand over his authority to the Qing government. Guan Tianpei knew that the general trend was gone, but for many years, the defensive line he had set up could be a monolith in Guangdong, and if everyone could unite as one, the British army would not dare to attack strongly. Sure enough, the British army once again launched bribery tactics, and endured until September 1840 before attacking Guan Tianpei.
In early 1841, after several guns and guns, Guan Tianpei issued an ultimatum to the British army. The British army had no fear, and Guan Tianpei tried to burn down the British ships and asked qi shan, the governor of Liangguang, for help, but he did not see a reply. Guan Tianpei knew that the British army was ready to attack, while reporting information to Qi Shan, while stationed at the Humen Fortress, it was attacked by the British army, and the defender Chen Liansheng was killed, Guan Tianpei still did not retreat, and according to the original plan, he stubbornly defended the Humen Fortress. But the funny thing is that Qi Shan only reinforced two hundred soldiers until the end, which was almost like laughing at Guan Tianpei.
Without Qi Shan's cooperation, guan Tianpei's original design of depth instantly failed, and the British army seemed to receive news, knowing that Qi Shan would definitely not be reinforced, and launched a final strong attack. Guan Tianpei took four hundred non-commissioned officers and used artillery to defend the front, and on the sixth day of February 1841, Guan Tianpei repaid the country with his death, and the British army intended to capture Guan Tianpei alive to break the coastal defense of Guangdong. Until the last moment, Guan Tianpei also fought on the battlefield and suffered 10 serious injuries. It could have been withdrawn to the two broad lines of defense, but in order to protect the Great Seal of Coastal Defense, he was killed in the transfer. And this death, after the British army took over the defense of Guangdong, also failed to break the deep line of coastal defense left by Guan Tianpei, and actually left a breath for Qi Shan, the governor of Liangguang, which made people awe-inspired.
