Park Ji-sung: I believe That Wayne Rooney can coach Manchester United in the future

Park Ji-sung has backed his former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney to one day take charge at Old Trafford.

Rooney began his management career when he received a vacant position in Derbyshire earlier this year, but he experienced some baptism of fire in the East Midlands.

Off-field issues have been deducted 21 points from Rooney's side, and derby is now at the bottom with -3 points. They are staring at the barrel of relegation to the top of the league.

When the Rams announced their move into management in September, Rooney vowed to stay and fight for the club, but his loyalty will be tested if they jump into the third line.

Despite a difficult start to his management career, Parker was fully confident that Rooney could turn things around. According to the South Korean, he has all the qualities of a future Manchester United manager.

"I'm sure Wayne can do it," Parker told Goal. "He's had great experiences from a very young age and there have been a lot of tough moments in his career, but in the end he got over them all.

"Of course, he also has excellent leadership skills. So, I believe he can be Manchester United's manager in the future. ”

Park also expressed his views on former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked on Sunday after losing four of his five league games.

Despite the recent poor results, Park believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has won the right to "fight" for his job until the end of the season.

Before the 4-1 defeat to Watford, he said: "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been manager for three years and I believe it will be a decisive season for him, in terms of whether he will remain at the club or not.

"I think everything he did at Manchester United is commendable and worth fighting for for his job until the end of the season, but he needs to prove that he can continue after that.

"He's done a great job of bringing back the old Manchester United spirit and culture to us.

"Before him, we had Luis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, who had a reputation as world-class coaches but didn't succeed, so I think United have learned from those experiences and they are the key to deciding to stick with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer [after the defeats at Liverpool and Manchester City].

"But the most important point is whether he can compete with the best coaches in the world, Pep [Guardiola], [Jurgen] Klopp, [Thomas] Tuchel.

"So I think we should wait until the end of the season. But if he can't show [he's good enough], it's going to be hard for him to continue. ”
