Tonight at 19:30, the National Centre for the Performing Arts 'Winter Covenant' online series of performances will present you with a concert that shows the unique charm of erhu art and ethnic chamber music: "Red Plum Blossom" in the Red Plum and National Chamber Music Concert.
In this concert, the famous erhu player Yu Hongmei will join hands with conductor Lin Tao, together with the Central Conservatory of Music Yijing Chamber Orchestra and Shengfeng Chamber Orchestra, to show the unique charm of erhu art and ethnic chamber music for the audience with rich and diverse works.
Among them, there are the erhu classic "Erquan Yingyue", the magnificent and atmospheric film and television music "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", the strong local music style of "Mihu Tune", as well as Yu Hongmei's original chamber music work "Momei", and the well-known song "My Motherland and Me". In this concert, the audience will fully experience the style of erhu art and national chamber music, and experience the rich expressiveness of Chinese national music.

As one of the most influential erhu players and educators today, Yu Hongmei's playing art style is sincere and simple, delicate and touching, full of passion, and the New York Concert Magazine commented that "her wonderful performance shocked the four seats".
The two chinese chamber orchestras that took stage tonight were created by Hongmei and their members were selected from the best graduate students in various majors of the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music. The Sacred Wind Chamber Orchestra is composed of Huqin, Ruan and Percussion, while the Yijing Chamber Orchestra is composed of erhu, Zhonghu, Pipa, Guzheng, Ruan, Flute, Yangqin, Sheng, Percussion and other instruments, and the two orchestras respectively present the exploration of different forms of ethnic chamber music.

In the summer of 1950, a wire recorder recorded "Erquan Yingyue" for the first time, and it was Ah Bing (formerly known as Hua Yanjun) himself. For more than seventy years, this piece of music has been circulated around the world and has become an immortal classic, and even in the hearts of many people, this gentle melody is the embodiment of erhu.
In the pre-performance guided tour of this concert, the host Li Jiaming will start from "Erquan Yingyue" with the famous erhu player Yu Hongmei and the music scholar Xiang Yang to explore the story behind the repertoire and lead the audience to appreciate the charm of the erhu as an instrument.
