"Research and Prospects on career development of Chinese and foreign college graduates" was jointly released by the Globalization Think Tank (CCG) and the LinkedIn today. The report points out that compared with other developing countries, China is gradually getting rid of the brain drain. In the future, the talent circulation trend of graduates of China's U10 universities (selected from 10 domestic universities) will be more obvious; China's attractiveness to graduates of global G100 universities (selected according to the 2022 QS World University Rankings) will gradually increase.

75% of China U10 college graduates are employed in China

The report selects Tsinghua University, Peking University, Chinese University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University, and Sun Yat-sen University as U10, and points out that these college graduates show a talent circulation model of "studying abroad and returning to China for employment" in the international migration.

Among U10 graduates, nearly 30% choose to continue their studies in Chinese universities, more than 70% study abroad, and the study destinations are mainly in the United States (37.5%) and Europe (19.71%), two areas where high-quality higher education resources are concentrated. However, the vast majority of U10 graduates are willing to make their first employment in China, which is as high as 75.34%. This reflects the recognition and confidence of Chinese students studying in China in the good economic development trend and employment situation in China.

China's job market attracts university students from all over the world

The report points out that employment in China has a strong attraction for global college graduates. Compared with U10 graduates, G100 graduates have approximately the same distribution of further studies and countries and regions where they first start their employment, with a high concentration in Europe and the United States. However, the proportion of G100 graduates who are employed for the first time in Europe and the United States is lower than the proportion of further studies in these two regions, or it is related to the fact that the European and American economies are in a period of deep adjustment and the job market is relatively saturated.

In contrast, the proportion of graduates who choose to go to Asia (including Chinese mainland) for first-time employment is much higher than the proportion of further studies; the proportion of G100 graduates who study in China is only 2.2%, while the proportion of people employed in China is as high as 10.72%.

The report pointed out that although this reflects to a certain extent the quality and reputation of China's higher education still needs to be further improved; on the other hand, taking into account China's current stricter work residency and visa restrictions, this also shows that the rapid development of China's economy and society is highly recognized by the international community, and the Chinese job market has a strong attraction for global college graduates.

Engaging in higher education is the most popular choice for first-time employment

The survey shows that higher education ranks first in both U10 and G100 graduates' first-time employment hotspots. As an industry that is closely linked to the education system and is more familiar to the student body, opportunities within the education system (such as teaching assistants, research assistant positions, etc.) play an important role in the transition for graduates from school to the workplace.

Information Technology & Services and Financial Services ranks in the top 5 industries for both U10 and G100 graduates to find first-time employment. With the breakthrough and wide application of new technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and 5G in recent years, information technology and service industry have grown rapidly around the world, providing a large number of jobs for college graduates. As a representative of the high-end service industry, the financial services industry has also developed rapidly in recent years, and its performance in indicators such as salary and salary increase in the industry is relatively impressive, and the absorption capacity and attractiveness of graduates are also strong.

Other common popular industries include the Internet, computer software, management consulting, research, banking, hospitals and medical care, which also belong to the modern service industry, which have higher requirements for professional knowledge and skill reserves, and are the main body for absorbing high-end talents.

Huawei became a global Top 10 employer

According to the survey, Chinese companies occupy seven of the top ten corporate employers for U10 graduates. Among them, Huawei, Tencent, ByteDance, Baidu and other Internet and information technology and service industry giants are on the list and ranked at the forefront; foreign companies account for three seats, of which EY, which ranks in the top three, and PwC, which ranks eighth, belong to the financial services industry.

The report pointed out that with the rapid development of China's economy, especially the Internet and digital economy, the rapid development of local technology companies has made it more attractive to U10 graduates than Microsoft, an international technology giant. In the financial services sector, competitive local companies are still lacking.

International financial services and network and technology companies have formed a strong employment attraction for G100 graduates, and the competitive advantage of Chinese technology companies represented by Huawei has gradually emerged. According to the data, among the top ten G100 graduate corporate employers, the top four international accounting firms belonging to the financial services industry are on the list and occupy the top three seats, and multinational network and technology giants such as Amazon, Google and Microsoft are also in the top ten. Huawei is second only to Amazon in the top ten enterprise employers, indicating that G100 graduates favor Chinese technology companies with a high degree of internationalization.

It is foreseeable that with the acceleration of the globalization process of Chinese enterprises, more and more local enterprises similar to Huawei, especially those in the leading industries of digital economy and scientific and technological innovation, have rapidly improved their global competitiveness, and the employment attractiveness of outstanding college graduates around the world has gradually increased, even surpassing the original multinational technology giants.
