In the video, red crabs travel in droves through roads, bridges, rocks and streams in order to reach their destination in time to breed. It is during this period that locals and tourists alike go to photograph the spectacular images of the red crab migration, which is considered to be one of the largest animal migrations on the planet.

Christmas Island crews spent months in advance preparing for the red crab migration, building crab bridges and temporary barriers to ensure the crabs' safety. Dr. Tanya Deto, an invasive species project expert at Christmas Island, says they can predict the migration routes of red crabs, but that change slightly from year to year. Dr Deto also said the region had never seen so many migrating red crabs since 2005.
