The largest courtyard has five entrances, which is also relatively rare in Beijing. Unfortunately, because of the epidemic situation, most of the large courtyards are closed and locked, and they can only be seen outside. Overlooking the mountain, the more regular squares in the center of the village are several courtyards.

Such a flourishing cultural context is truly remarkable in a mountain village where even today's transportation is not very developed. The reason is that this place was once the place where the Jingxi Ancient Road passed, the economy was relatively developed, and there were once eight large businesses in the village, called "Eight Halls". Xihedian is not only a business hall, but also cultivated tributes. It seems that having financial resources and a wide range of vision is a prerequisite for investment in education.

The Ming "Miscellaneous Records of the Wanju Department" records: "Lingquan Zen Temple, in the Ling (Ling) Water Village, began in the Han Dynasty, and was rebuilt by monks and seamen during the Hongzhi period. "This is the earliest written temple in Lingshui Village, and it is said to be the earliest Buddhist temple in the Beijing area with written records. At present, only one mountain gate remains at Lingquan Temple. Standing at the door, you can see several levels of high platforms in the courtyard, and I think it is the original base of the main hall. Later, several red brick bungalows were built with the slogan "Study well and work up every day", which should be the primary school in the village. Now the elementary school is also abandoned.

It's like stepping into an ancient time. The thousand-year-old branches rustled, as if the students of Lingshui Village were reciting the Four Books and Five Classics and the Tang poems and Song Ci.
