According to the latest information released by the Peruvian Ministry of Production, the second fishing season of anchovies in southern Peru began trial fishing on November 15 for a week, and officially began on November 22, with a total fishing quota of 2.047 million tons in this season.

The Peruvian Institute of Oceanography (Imarpe) is responsible for the dynamic monitoring of anchovy biological resources and is qualified to provide scientific advice to industry and governments during the fishing season.

Compared with the quota of 2.78 million tons in the second production season last year, this year's quota of 2.047 million tons is significantly lower. James Frank, general manager of MSICeres, a Peruvian fishmeal trading company, had expected quotas in the second season this year to be in the range of 2-2.5 million tonnes, with a worst-case scenario of 1.5-1.8 million tonnes.

According to statistics, Peru exported more than 1 million tons of fishmeal in the first eight months of this year, an increase of more than 60% over the same period last year. Peru's exports to the Chinese market reached a record 853,000 tons, accounting for 85.2% of total exports. Frank expects exports to approach 1.2 million tonnes this year, up 43 percent from last year.
