"Anecdotes of Baixiang" - A Thousand Years of Ancient Villages (5)

The origin of the name "Lu Village"

Baixiang County village name before the direction of the administrative village called Lu Village, counting the middle Lu, northeast Lu, northwest Lu, southeast Lu, southwest Ludong village, southwest Luxi village and other six.

We know that the southwest Lu village was divided into two administrative villages, the East Brigade and the West Brigade, in 1962. So, when were northeast Lu and northwest Lu, southeast Lu and southwest Lu separated?

After checking the Kangxi edition, the Qianlong edition, and the Republic of China edition of the "Baixiang County Chronicle", there is no detailed record of it (Kangxi Zhiji: Zhongbeili Village). According to the genealogical records of the Yang clan in the southeast, the time when the Yang family moved to the southeast Lu Village, and Mr. Yang Shuangsuo's examination of the construction time of the temple in the village, the southeast Lu Village has a history of about 400 years. The author believes that The time when Nanlu was divided into Southwest Lu and Southeast Lu, and the time when Northern Lu was divided into Northwest Lu and Northeast Lu seems to be in the middle and late Ming Dynasty. The reason is that at this time, the population of Baixiang County reached 27,000, which is the peak period. After that, it remained at more than 10,000 for a long time. As for the origin of Lu Zi and the time of establishment of the village, the "Baixiang County Gazetteer" and the "Baixiang County Chronicle" both record that "it has been lost" and "the name of the village is yet to be examined".

In the spring of 2015, when Xili Village was digging a mud pit during the construction of the Dongyue Palace, a stele of the Northern Song Dynasty Zhezong Yuanyou viii (1093) was found in the ancient well of Zhangyu Shen(1093). The stele records that the person of the "Lu Elephant of Duvina in Nanlu Village" participated in the temple building activities on july 15 of the eighth year of the Yuan Dynasty. According to this, it can be concluded that in the eighth year of the Yuan Dynasty (1093 AD), nanlu village existed, and there were people with the surname Lu passed down. From the perspective of being, in the Song Dynasty, the three villages of Nanlu, Zhonglu and Beilu were separated, perhaps with the surname of "Lu", but the time was much earlier than that of the Song Dynasty.

In 2018, the author participated in an activity of the CppcC Committee of Baixiang County, and on a stone stele in Zhonglu Village, I stumbled upon the words "Miao of the Di Gao Xin Clan", which aroused my great interest. Due to the long time of the stele and the unclear handwriting, the author spent six days to transcribe and sort out the inscription, although it is incomplete, but the general meaning can be faintly recognized from the lines. The stele seems to have been erected for a man with the name of Yilu. The inscription first states that the person with the surname Lu was from "Julu Bairen County"; and then traced the origin of the "Lu" surname - "the Miao descendants of the Di Gaoxin clan, after the Lu Gong Bo bird"; and then said that his fifth ancestor was "the secretary of the two dynasties, Taishan Taishou"; the fourth ancestor to his ancestor seems to have served in the "Zhending County Order" and "Zhao BaiDai County Shou To Comfort". The inscription bears the names of a number of officials of the Northern Dynasty. There are many Gaoyi people on the side of the monument. From the perspective of The View, in the Eastern Wei, Northern Wei, and even the Jin Dynasty, the Lu surname was the Wang clan in the Area of Gaoyi and Bairen at that time, and the "Lu Village" at that time was indeed a village with the surname of "Lu", and the time was before the Wei and Jin Dynasties. The six administrative villages with "Lu" in the south of the present-day Baixiang County, and the three villages of Zhonglu, Nanlu and Beilu in the Song Dynasty were all divided by the "Lu Village". The exact time of the erection of this monument, (the lower limit of the time of the monument is before the establishment of Baixiang County), who erected it, and where it was first erected still need to be studied.

According to the "Nest Gathering Place of the Ancestors' Lives in the Early Years" written by Yang Shuangsuo of Southeast Lu Village, Southeast Lu Village, "The Ancient Tomb of LuMu Cemetery (locally known as Lujia Knot) is located in the northwest corner of Southeast Lu Village, covering an area of about 10 acres, and the knot is about three zhang high. The production team found a large amount of blackened ash soil, and excavated copper arrows, copper pots, ancient tiles and other relics. According to the old man, the tomb once had a tombstone, and someone built it on the mouth of a nearby well. The author believes that the "Lumu Cemetery" mentioned here seems to be a mistake of "Lumu Cemetery". The first reason is that the Lu surname migrated to southeast Lu late, and it is impossible to find the "Lu Mu Gong" or lu name in history; the second is that the "Lu Village" village name and the zhonglu ancient stele have "Lu characters"; the third is that the ancient tomb specifications are higher and can match the "Lu Mu Gong".

It was found that "the Duke of Lumu was the 29th generation king of the Lu Gong Bo Bird and reigned for 33 years. In 256 BC, it was passed down to the 35th king, and the state of Lu was destroyed by the state of Chu, and from then on the people of the country took Lu as their surname. Judging from the records of "Han Feizi" that "Lu Mu made all the princes eunuchs in Jin, or eunuchs in Jing", it is natural that the Lu clan of Baixiang or the descendants of "Lu Mu Gong", and the ancient stele records that the high-ranking official "Secretary Lang of the Two Dynasties", then "Lu Village" is a very natural thing to establish a village with the surname of "Lu".
