"A good work is to go deep into the countryside and the people, and to write plays that the villagers love to watch." On the 28th, Sun Chunjin, a 60-year-old local writer of the Changzi County People's Theater Troupe in Changzhi County, Shanxi Province, showed reporters the dramatic works he had created in the past 32 years.

"Looking at the hometown, the eyes are desolate. His face was still haggard, his heart was dripping with blood, and he seemed to be wandering. "On nostalgia, nostalgia. Sigh, think about it! "In Changzi County, the people have a special love for these easy-to-understand and life-friendly plays, and the one who gives them their unique charm is Sun Chunjin, a local writer who writes plays for farmers. In the past 32 years, Sun Chunjin has created more than 50 modern plays, TV drum books and regional cultural works.

Born and raised in the countryside, Sun Chunjin's bitterness in peasant life and the folklore and historical stories passed down by the villagers are the inspiration and material for his creation. At the age of 25, on the recommendation of his mentor, Sun Chunjin came to work in the Changzi County People's Theater Troupe from his hometown, and over the years, while creating the script, he also served as an actor, director, music editor and other positions.

Under Sun Chunjin's pen, the neighbors and villagers have become the protagonists with distinct personalities, the sour, sweet and bitter lives of farmers have been presented one by one, and even many traditional historical dramas and mythological stories have been given new meanings. The costume drama "Lamentations of Western Yan" tells the life of Murong Yong, the protagonist of the ancient capital of Western Yan; the anti-war film literature "Shangdang Silver Horn • One Dollar" embodies the family's character of talking about credit; the modern drama "Southern Dream and Northern Circle" shows the life situation during the "SARS" period...

"The work 'My Mother's Life' takes the protagonist Guan Qi's eldest son as the first person, and the tour guide expounds the touching deeds of Guan Qi's filial piety and filial piety, and the protagonist's family lives in the southern town of Changzi County, which is a character around me, and I have interviewed many times to collect materials." Sun Chunjin said. In order to let more people get closer to the repertoire and feel the artistic charm of traditional culture, in the past few decades, he has followed the troupe to perform in various townships and villages. "I am a student of the masses of the people, and only by working with my father and fellow villagers can I create better works."

In the early 1990s, due to a variety of factors, the development of the troupe encountered a bottleneck, and most of the people who engaged in theater creation with Sun Chunjin stopped writing and turned to work and found another way out, but he never had the idea of leaving the troupe.

"The dilemma is only temporary." Sun Chunjin looked for innovation and breakthroughs, broke the original creative model, and combined drama with local characteristic cultures such as changzi drum books and brass musical instruments. Since 2007, his adaptations of TV drum books, bronze instrument costume dramas such as "One Hammer Final" and "Blue Blood Loyal Soul" have been performed successively. Today, these plays are local household names and classic songs sung by everyone.

Sun Chunjin has now become the inheritor of the opera industry in Changzi County, and in 2018, he participated in the joint creation of the large-scale historical drama "Feiguan Zhenggong" and was widely praised as soon as it was performed, and the Changzi County People's Theater Troupe has now initially formed an industrial chain of self-editing, self-directing and self-acting. The troupe performs more than 350 times a year, of which more than 100 are sent to the countryside voluntarily.

Writing plays for the people is the principle that Sun Chunjin adheres to, and he has been creating for more than 30 years, and some people have paid him to write some entertaining drum book segments, which were rejected by Sun Chunjin. He said that writers with a sense of responsibility should spread truth, goodness and beauty to the people.

"Excellent works should be appreciated by all the customs." Sun Chunjin frankly said that it is difficult to inherit theatrical creation. He believes that a good script writer needs a certain talent and a deep cultural heritage, and such talents are difficult to explore. Sun Chunjin sent a message to young writers to immerse themselves in creation.

"The gold cup and silver cup are not as good as the reputation of the common people." The test of whether a work is successful lies all in the people, the people like it, and it is a good work that is passed on by word of mouth and sung. At present, Sun Chunjin is creating a drama based on an old veteran, and will adapt a traditional play next, "hoping to produce new products, fine products, innovative development, and inheritance of traditional culture."
