The Edge of Eternity, Chapter XVII

author:Hunt1008

With the announcement by the United States that it would intercept and inspect all suspicious vessels heading for Cuba, conflict, war and even destruction were on the verge of erupting.

George's hair was all standing up as the situation progressed. The Navy sent the latest information that six Soviet ships had turned back from Cuban waters, which George felt was a compromise by the Kremlin, but everything needed the decision of the military and the president. U.S. Air Force combat units were ready to take off at any moment, and the nuclear warheads carried by various types of fighters were enough to raze the entire Soviet Union to the ground — but even if they knew that their strength could kill their opponents, no one dared to act rashly, because the opponents also had the same terrible weapons.

Hearing that his dream lover Maria was ill, George's heart was anxious. He seemed to have forgotten that the Cuban Missile crisis was still on the string, and after inquiring about Maria's new residence, George immediately went to visit. Maria was unusually weak from the miscarriage, and she was both grateful and guilty to George, but the little life she miscarried belonged to President Kennedy, and as an ordinary White House employee, what could Maria say?

George knows the truth, what can he do?

Demika is surprised that her girlfriend Nina is actually pregnant. In the previous relationship, Nina told Demika that she could not conceive due to a physical defect because the two did not use contraception when they were intimate; however, Nina said that she was pregnant with Demika's child and expressed her willingness to have an abortion. Demika, who had commanded the secret delivery of missiles to Cuba, had no clue, and he could not forget Nataya, who had enchanted him, but Nina was pregnant with the flesh and blood of the Dvorkin family after all, and Demica finally decided to marry Nina Bongzi after repeated ideological struggles.

It was a difficult choice, and Demika fell to reality. The Soviet Union also needed to make appropriate compromises under the pressure of reality, and in the face of a devastating blow that the United States could launch at any time, Khrushchev decided to withdraw Cuba's nuclear weapons, but only if the United States publicly promised not to take any form of invasion of Cuba. In fact, this is not a concession from the Soviet Union, the original intention of deploying missiles in Cuba is to curb the infiltration and subversion of the United States; therefore, the Soviet Decision is quite clever to retreat and advance, and then sit and wait for the reaction of the United States.

The United States selected a ship bound for Cuba for boarding inspection, and there were no offensive weapons on board, while the Soviet side was calm and did not protest the U.S. move. The situation seems to be easing, but both sides know that everything is changing rapidly before the missile launch equipment that has been installed in Cuba has been dismantled, and those who expect peace have not yet ushered in a moment of celebration.
