Speaking of Wu Zhongqi, I believe that many spring fans have seen the plaques and yanglian written by him in the world's first spring scenic area, but how much do you know about his life deeds?
Wu Zhongqi (1907.9-2006.3), a native of Jinan, Shandong. When he was young, his family was poor, he worked as a child laborer in a printing factory, engaged in the labor of grinding stone engraving and engraving, often watched the lithographers write on the stone plates, paid attention to the day and night, became interested in calligraphy and gold stones, and was committed to self-study, diligent exploration, and increasingly sophisticated. His books started from Ou and Yan, and then studied the "Zheng Wen Gong Monument" and "Taishan Jing Shiyu", and read the "Four Books" of the seal body, browsed the "Five Classics", and obtained the essence of tradition. When he was a teenager, he used hemp as a pen, water instead of ink, bricks as paper, and studied diligently. The books left at that time were handsome and smooth, clean and lush, and of high taste.
He threw himself into the revolution in the early 1930s, joined the Communist Party of China in 1936, participated in leading the anti-Japanese uprising in Shandong Province at the end of 1937, and later served as the commander of the Eighth Route Army. In the years of war, he still insisted on studying calligraphy, often drawing sand with a stick, pointing at the knee of a book, writing a book with a cotton ball, and engraving a kitchen knife. The inscription is engraved with ink, solemn and thick, tall and strong, showing the majesty and strength honed by the military career. The tombstones of many revolutionary martyrs in Shandong are engraved with his vigorous and dignified handwriting, which has now been passed down as precious cultural relics to future generations and enlighten those who come.
Wu Zhongqi successively served as a director of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, the chairman of the Jiangsu Calligraphers Association, the vice president of the Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Chinese Painting, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress. He was enthusiastic about the cultural undertakings of the motherland, and had given hundreds of fine works of books to the people of his hometown; many famous mountains and rivers, historical relics, and merchant names were colored by his ink marks; and the number of people who received his books and his teachings was even more difficult to count. Its bookish artists, the light can shine on people. He has made historic contributions to the development of traditional Chinese culture, especially the art of calligraphy.
