According to the above-mentioned official media reports, Wu Kongming, president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is now a member of the party group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

According to the official resume, Wu Kongming, born in July 1964, male, Han ethnicity, from Gushi County, Henan Province, a member of the Communist Party of China, a researcher, was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2011.

He graduated from the Department of Plant Protection of Henan Agricultural University in 1984, received his Ph.D. from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1994, and served as deputy director, deputy secretary of the party committee and director of the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

In October 2012, Wu Kongming was appointed vice president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and a member of the party group, and later in January 2019, he was appointed deputy secretary of the party group, vice president and secretary of the party committee of the directly subordinate organs of the academy. In October 2021, Wu Kongming was appointed President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (Vice Minister level).

Wu Kongming has long been engaged in the research of major agricultural pest biology, monitoring, early warning and control technology such as cotton bollworm, and has successively won honors or talent titles such as special government allowances, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions from the Ministry of Agriculture, China Youth Science and Technology Award, National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers, He Liang He Li Science and Technology Progress Award, China Agricultural Talents Award, And China Agricultural Science and Technology Award Outstanding Innovation Team.

He has presided over more than 10 scientific research projects such as the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Natural Science Outstanding Youth Science Fund and the Innovation Group Science Foundation, and the two research results were selected into the "Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress News of China" in 2008 and the "Top Ten Progresses in Chinese Science" in 2012, won 2 second prizes of national scientific and technological progress and 1 third prize of national scientific and technological progress, and published more than 200 papers in SCI journals such as Science, Nature, and PNAS.

It is worth mentioning that Wu Kongming once explained biosafety issues in the collective study of the Politburo of the Central Committee.

On the afternoon of September 29, 2021, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee conducted the 33rd collective study on strengthening the construction of biosecurity in China. Wu Kongming, then an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, gave a lecture on this issue and put forward work suggestions, and the comrades of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee listened carefully to his explanations and discussed them.
