What is a digital currency?

Digital currency is the same as paper money, both are currencies issued by the central bank, with national credit endorsement, with paper money-like use scenarios, that is, legal tender; digital currency is the currency in circulation, while Alipay and WeChat first exist in the form of deposits and then circulate.

Simply put

WeChat and Alipay are "wallets"

And the digital yuan is "money"

The two are not on the same dimension

But! But! But!

Recently, there have been scammers

Use "digital yuan" to commit fraud

How do scams use digital currencies to cheat?

At present, the country has not fully implemented digital currency, and only piloted in some regions. However, scammers have used digital currency to transfer funds from fraud, which makes it more difficult for the public security organs to investigate and solve cases and recover stolen goods.

Typical cases

Case 1: On October 28, a group of people in Lin'an, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, encountered impersonation of the Public Prosecutor's Law fraud, the other party on the grounds that the victim was suspected of money laundering, asked the victim to "prove his innocence", provided personal information, bank card number, mobile phone verification code, recorded selfie video, etc., and used the "NetEase Conference" software to remotely instruct the victim to operate by sharing the screen.

Subsequently, the fraudsters opened a digital yuan wallet for the victim, exchanged the funds in the victim's industrial and commercial bank card into a digital wallet, and then transferred the "digital yuan" out to other digital wallets. The victims were defrauded of a total of 79,000 yuan.

Coincidentally, the masses in Wucheng District, Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, also received similar scams. The fraudsters open the meeting mode through the "Feishu" App - share the screen, after taking the information of the parties, teach them to open a digital people's wallet, exchange 265,000 yuan in 7 transactions, and then transfer it out to other people's digital wallets.

Case 2: On October 28, Wang Mou of Luhuo County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, received a strange phone call saying that he had a high-interest loan on an online loan platform that needed to be cleared, otherwise it would affect personal credit records. Wang Mou did borrow online loans himself, so he relaxed his guard and gave the scammers an opportunity to take advantage of.

After that, the other party asked Wang to inquire about the credit limit on the platform and transfer the limit to his bank card. Wang transferred more than 100,000 yuan from the "money to spend" loan platform to his bank card according to the requirements. Subsequently, the other party asked Wang to download the "Digital Yuan" APP and transfer the funds in the card to the designated digital account through the "Digital Yuan" software. In the end, Wang was defrauded of more than 100,000 yuan.

Case 3: On November 1, a victim reported to the police that he had received a strange phone call from a police officer claiming to be a police officer from the Chengdu Municipal Public Security Bureau, saying that the bank account under his name was suspected of a fraud case, and that the case would be tried at the Chengdu Intermediate People's Court and that he needed to cooperate with them in the investigation. After the other party induced him to fill in personal and bank account information on his mobile phone in the name of verifying the legitimacy of the bank's deposit source, he transferred all the money to the industrial and commercial bank account under his name according to the instructions of the other party, and then the scammer used his identity information to register a digital RMB wallet with the Bank of China and transferred all the 97,795 yuan in the account.

In the above cases, although the fraud methods are different, they are all scammers who transfer funds through "digital yuan".

Police alert

1. Understand the basics of the digital yuan. The digital yuan is legal tender, equivalent to banknotes and coins, and has no collectible and hype value. Any use of digital currency to promote profits, cashbacks, and margin payments is fraudulent.

2. Do not click on SMS links, emails or websites from unknown sources. Authoritative information and winning information on the digital yuan should be obtained through official channels, and do not click on SMS links from unknown sources.

3. Beware of leaking personal information such as account numbers, passwords, and ID cards on platforms other than digital and banking apps. Be wary of criminals impersonating bank staff or other financial institutions to solicit personal information.

4. Look for the official digital coin app and be wary of counterfeit apps. Since it is still in the pilot stage, the download channel of the digital coin app should be the sms message of the official activity or the download link provided by the bank's official hotline.

5. Transfer funds with caution and do not be deceived. For the transfer of the new "digital yuan", it is necessary to be more cautious, carefully check the transfer matters, and keep in mind the "ten whatevers, six all". If you find that you have been deceived, go to the public security organ in time to report to the police.
