Yongle Canon

The Yongle Canon was officially edited by Ming Chengzu, and was presided over by Xie Jin and Yao Guangxiao. In addition to the preparatory work, the compilation of the Yongle Canon took 8 years and was attended by more than 2,000 people. The Yongle Canon was originally named the "Literature Classic", and when Ming Chengzu Zhu Di personally wrote the preface to the "Literature Classic", it was changed to the Yongle Classic according to the era name of Ming Chengzu Zhu Di. The Yongle Canon consists of 22,877 volumes, 11,095 volumes, and about 370 million words. Britain's Encyclopædia Britannica called the Yongle Canon "the largest encyclopedia ever made in the world." There is only one original book of the Yongle Canon, and the Jiajing Emperor of the Ming Dynasty particularly liked the Yongle Canon, and copied one during the Jiajing period. Later, the original copy disappeared, and some people believed that it was originally buried after Jiajing's death, and the existing fragments were copied. After the Yongle Canon was written, it experienced disasters, including the modern Eight-Nation Alliance's entry into Beijing and the seizure of the Yongle Canon from the east and the west. Up to now, the original manuscript of the Yongle Canon has only preserved more than 300 volumes, of which more than 200 are in China, hidden in the Forbidden City and Taiwan. The rest were lost overseas, in the national libraries of Britain, France, Germany, Japan, the United States and other countries, which were looted from China. China is the only country in the world that has not had a broken culture among the ancient civilizations, so China is also the country with the richest historical documents in the world. Ancient documents and classics carry the knowledge and wisdom of our ancestors, and we should protect these cultural classics, which is our historical responsibility. At the same time, we should also draw from it the essence of culture that can serve the times, and use the past for the present.
