BEIJING, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- According to reports, US Secretary of State Blinken recently said that the United States has a commitment to ensure that Taiwan has the ability to defend itself, and said that many countries regard the unilateral use of force to undermine the status quo as a major threat to peace and security. In this regard, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin responded at a regular press conference on the 11th that the relevant remarks of the US side disregard the facts and violate international law. Any act that challenges the one-China principle and resists the general trend of China's reunification will be resolutely thwarted.

Wang Wenbin said: The one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiques are the basis for the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the healthy development of Sino-US relations. The "Taiwan Relations Act" unilaterally enacted by the United States violates the commitments made by the US side in the three Sino-US joint communiques and puts the internal law of the United States above international obligations, which is illegal and invalid. China will never allow the US side to infringe on China's sovereignty and interfere in China's internal affairs under any pretext. The US side should scrupulously abide by the one-China principle and the stipulations of the three Sino-US joint communiques with practical actions, be cautious in words and deeds, and stop sending any wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" forces.

Wang Wenbin stressed: There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is a part of China, which is not only a historical and legal fact that cannot be changed, but also a status quo that cannot be challenged. The one-China principle is a universally recognized norm governing international relations and the universal consensus of the international community. General Assembly Resolution 2758 not only recognized the People's Republic of China as "China's sole legitimate representative in the United Nations organization," but also expelled "Chiang Kai-shek's representatives" from "seats at the United Nations." In the course of the consultations on the resolution, the Proposal of the United States and a few other countries attempting to engage in "double recognition" and create "two Chinas" was not adopted, and Taiwan's representation in the United Nations was completely denied. The relevant documents of the United Nations clearly state that "the United Nations believes that Taiwan has no independent status as a province of China" and that "the Taiwan authorities do not enjoy any form of government status".

"There are 180 countries in the world that recognize and support the one-China principle, the pattern of the international community adhering to the one-China principle is as solid as a rock, and China's reunification is an irresistible historical trend." Wang Wenbin pointed out that the Attempt by the Taiwan authorities and a small number of "Taiwan independence" separatist forces to negate and challenge the one-China principle and expand the space for "Taiwan independence" activities is the root cause of the current tension in the Taiwan Strait and is resolutely opposed by the Chinese Government and the international community. Any act that challenges the one-China principle and resists the general trend of China's reunification will be resolutely thwarted. Any attempt to support "Taiwan independence" and split and go against the tide of history will end in failure. (End)
