On March 14, 2015, members of the Zunyi Cave Expedition Golden Bull Team found a giant tadpole with a body length of 14 centimeters in a cave stream at an altitude of about 780 meters on the outskirts of Zunyi City. Qian Zhi, secretary general of the Guizhou Provincial Cave Association, who has been engaged in the study of cave biology for many years, verified that this giant tadpole is a juvenile of the red-spotted toothed toad. The red-spotted toad larvae are larger, but larvae up to 14 cm long are rare.
