According to the data of Tianyancha, from a geographical point of view, Guangdong has the largest number of mooncake-related enterprises; from the perspective of enterprise type, 60% of mooncake enterprises are individual industrial and commercial households. Compared with the most popular Wuren mooncake and egg yolk lotus mooncake related patents, Wuren mooncake has outstanding performance in terms of patent rights, with 18 valid status patents and 3 related to the field of food technology, and the patent application is 17 years earlier than that of the egg yolk lotus mooncake. In addition, China currently has more than 160,000 mooncake packaging related patents, of which about 50,000 are appearance patents.

Mid-Autumn Festival did not come to the moon cake first, Tianyancha data show that at present, China's enterprise name or business scope contains "moon cake", and the status of more than 23,000 enterprises in business, survival, relocation, and out, small and micro enterprises account for nearly 78%, more than 70% of the registered capital of related enterprises in 0-1 million.
Geographically, Guangdong has the largest number of mooncake-related enterprises, accounting for 13% of the total number of related enterprises in the country, and there are more than 2,000 related enterprises in Henan and Guangxi. In addition, the number of mooncake-related enterprises in Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shandong, Anhui and Hunan has also exceeded 1,000.
In terms of enterprise types, 60% of the mooncake-related enterprises are individual industrial and commercial households, and 28% of the related enterprises are limited liability companies. In terms of industry distribution, 63% of mooncake-related enterprises are distributed in manufacturing, and another 34% of related enterprises are distributed in wholesale and retail trade, accommodation and catering.
According to the data of Tianyancha, in the past ten years, the registration growth rate of mooncake-related enterprises in China has always been stable at about 10%, with an average of more than 2,000 new mooncake-related enterprises added every year. As of July 30, the number of new mooncake-related enterprises in China this year has exceeded 620, subject to industrial and commercial registration.

Wuren Mooncake has outstanding performance in terms of patent rights

Mooncakes are the highlight of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the most common in the market are the Wuren Mooncake and egg yolk lotus mooncake. Compared with patent rights, which party is more prominent?
According to the data of Tianyancha, there are currently 56 patents for "Wuren Mooncake" in China, of which 18 are valid status patents, and 3 are related to the field of food technology, including "Xiangwei Wuren Mooncake", "Chicory Wuren Mooncake", "Sucrose-free Sucrose Syrup Wuren Mooncake", and the earliest patent information for "Wuren Mooncake" was applied for in 1988. There are 31 patents for "egg yolk lotus mooncake", 8 valid status patents, and all of them are packaging box appearance patents, and related patents were first applied for in 2005.
The patent application for Wuren Mooncake is 17 years earlier than that of Egg Yolk Lotus Paste, and the effective patent is twice that of Egg Yolk Lotus Moon Cake. From the perspective of patents alone, Wuren Mooncake performed better.

About 50,000 are cosmetic patents
In recent years, a variety of mooncake gift boxes have emerged in an endless stream. Tianyancha App shows that China currently has more than 160,000 mooncake packaging related patents, of which about 50,000 are appearance patents, from the shape and structure point of view, including ordinary paper gift boxes, retro nostalgic iron boxes, multi-layer drawer type, convenient bag type, practical bento type, etc. The patent applicants of such packaging boxes are mostly enterprises, including corresponding brand names, logos, patterns and other information.
It is worth noting that many consumers have a deep understanding of the excessive packaging of holiday gift boxes, and even some netizens complain about "buying packaging and sending mooncakes". Recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation revised and issued the mandatory national standard "Restrictions on Excessive Packaging Requirements for Commodities food and cosmetics", stipulating that food and cosmetic packaging must not exceed four layers, which will be implemented from September 2023.
