Prototype Introduction:

The Appearance of the Yangyan-class destroyers was almost identical to that of the Asashio-class, and Engineers of the Japanese Navy built them to improve the stability of the ships and employ Japan's most advanced torpedo technology. According to the Japanese Navy's strategic plan, the Yangyan-class destroyers were designed to compete with the U.S. Navy day and night. Despite being one of the most powerful destroyers in the world, the Yangyan-class destroyers had only one snow prince left after World War II (renamed Danyang in 1947 as compensation to China).

War experience

On January 1, 1940, kuroshio, shortly after its completion, participated in the sixteenth exercise of the Japanese Combined Fleet.

At 18:00 on June 23, 1941, after the exercise was over, Kuroshio collided with her fellow Natsushio and Minewinds in the Bungo Waterway, and Kuroshio was sent to the Kure Naval Arsenal for a month of repairs.

On 7 December 1941, during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Kuroshio was assigned to the XV Destroyer Fleet of the Second Mine Warfare Squadron to escort the mines of the RYŪ and ITSUKUSHIMA in the capture of South Philippines.

Minor damage was caused on December 23 due to an attack by U.S. Army Air Corps B-17 Flying Fortress bombers.

In 1942, Kuroshio participated in the invasion of the Dutch East Indies, escorting the main forces invading Manado, Kenda and Ambon in January and February, and the main forces invading Makassar, East Timor and Java.

On 8 February, Kuroshio rescued survivors of the Sunsea, who had been sunk by a U.S. submarine, and on 5 March, together with HMS Pro-Tide, rescued survivors of the sunk British Navy's mine-laying ship.

At the end of March, the Kaga returned to Sasebo from Sulawesi.

In mid-June, Kuroshio escorted the patrol as planned for a further attack on the Indian Ocean, but when Kuroshio arrived in Dhan Lao, Burma, the mission was cancelled and she was reassigned to escort the light cruisers Kumano and Suzutani to Balikpapan and the Solomon Islands.

On August 24, during the Battle of the East Solomon Islands (Japanese name: Second Battle of Solomon), she was part of the advance team of Commander Nobutake Kondo of the Second Fleet, but did not actually participate in the battle.

In September, Kuroshio patrolled between Truque and Guadalcanal.

On 11 October, he joined Operation Tokyo Express, transporting soldiers at high speed to Guadalcanal until mid-February 1943.

During the Battle of Santa Cruz on 26 October, kuroshio was assigned to escort Shunyang Maru.

On 30 November, Kuroshio took part in the Battle of Tassafalunga, where her torpedo may have hit the U.S. heavy cruiser USS Northampton.

On 21 February 1943, Kuroshio and Shunyang Maru returned to the Wu Naval Arsenal for repairs, and on 10 April they returned to Truk with Oki Hawk and Ōying.

At the end of April, Kuroshio took part in troop transport missions on The Island of Shortland.

On 8 May, on a night transport mission with the Pro-Tide and Yangyan, after leaving the island of Koln Bangalara, the three ships were struck by mines, and Kuroshio immediately caught fire and exploded and sank, killing 83 people on board. Pro-Tide and Yang Yan were also sunk in subsequent U.S. air raids. The 15th Destroyers were completely wiped out.

On June 20, he was expelled from the Navy.

Later, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force passed on kuroshio's name after the war, but Kaizi used the name for conventionally powered submarines: the first generation of kuroshio training submarines (SS-501) after the war was leased from the U.S. Navy in 1955 and returned to the U.S. military in 1970. It also sank the Yuyun-class ship Yubo, which was escorting the Asahito Maru, in front of the north, the second generation Kuroshio (SS-570) belonged to the Vortex class submarine No. 5 that was in service from the 70s to the mid-90s, and the third generation Kuroshio (SS-596) belonged to the No. 7 of the current marine autonomous submarine pro-tide class submarine.
