After hanging up his boots, Ian Rush returned to his parent team Chester in 2004 as the manager of the team that was in League Two at the time, but resigned after only eight months of coaching due to the continued failure of the record and the disagreement with the team president. After that, Ian Rush worked on television as a game commentator and more recently returned to Liverpool as a team's Goodwill Ambassador, representing the team at charity events around the world.
