Is the air conditioner at 25 degrees Celsius the most comfortable? The City of Himeji, Japan, will conduct scientific experiments

According to the "Central News Agency" on July 2, in order to alleviate the greenhouse effect and strictly save energy and reduce carbon, most offices in Japan have fixed the air conditioning temperature at 28 degrees Celsius. However, some studies have pointed out that 25 degrees Celsius is the most comfortable temperature for human body sensations, and the Himeji City Government in Japan decided to start scientific experiments from the 16th.

According to reports, the Himeji City Government of Hyogo Prefecture announced on the 2nd that it will reduce the indoor temperature of the air conditioner to 25 degrees Celsius from July 16 to August 30 during the working hours. While the Japanese government's Ministry of the Environment recommends 28 degrees Celsius, the Himeji city government says they are based on scientific advice for the trial.

The Himeji city government said that from July 16 to August 30, from 8:35 a.m. to 5:20 p.m., a "room temperature 25 degrees" test will be conducted in the halls and offices of the city hall building. As for the room temperature for overtime hours, it has not yet been decided.

The Himeji City Government decided to conduct this experiment mainly because of a proposal made by Shuji Kajimoto, a close friend of Himeji Mayor Kiyomoto Hideta and a special professor at Osaka City University.

According to a study introduced by Kajimoto, if the average room temperature is increased from 25 degrees To 28 degrees, about 72 yen per square meter can save about 72 yen per square meter, but it will bring economic losses such as poor work efficiency of employees and an increase in overtime hours of about 29 minutes.

Therefore, Kajimoto said that the economic effects such as improving labor health and work efficiency by controlling the comforting room temperature and bringing about economic effects such as reducing overtime hours should be scientifically verified, so it is recommended that the Qingyuan test control the room temperature at 25 degrees Celsius to 26 degrees Celsius.

The Himeji City Government decided to conduct a trial in the municipal building. It is expected that in September after the end of the trial, the number of overtime hours, the increase or decrease in electricity bills, and other changes will be investigated, and the employees will also be surveyed on work efficiency, comfort, and fatigue.

Mr. Qingyuan said he hoped the move would help improve the working environment and reform the way of working, and that the experiment did not have the idea of "reversing" energy efficiency.
