Friends who like the Three Kingdoms should know something about the name Huo Jun, but if you mention Huo Jun's deeds in the Three Kingdoms, you may know very little. In the novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", Huo Jun is portrayed as an incompetent general, and when something happens, he reports to the rescue soldiers for help.

However, in history, Huo Jun was a famous general who was good at keeping things, and his status in the Shu Han regime was extremely high, so what merit did Huo Jun have? And why is it not famous in history?

Huo Jun (Chinese: 胡君; pinyin: Fīồng Zhōng), was a native of Zhijiang, Nan Commandery (南郡; present-day Zhijiang, Hubei). When he was young, he and his brother Huo Du pulled up a team of more than 800 people in his hometown to fight against the thieves. Later, Huo Du died, and at that time, Liu Biao, the mu of Jingzhou, let this team be led by Huo Jun.

In the thirteenth year of Jian'an, that is, in 208 AD, after Liu Biao's death, Huo Jun led his troops to Defect to Liu Bei and was appointed as the general of Zhonglang, which was also the road to Huo Jun's rise.

In the seventeenth year of Jian'an (212 CE), Liu Bei garrisoned Yemeng (葭萌, in present-day southwestern Guangyuan, Sichuan) and prepared to sneak south to attack Liu Zhang, leaving Huo Jun's loyalty and stability to guard Yemeng. This matter was soon learned by Zhang Lu in the north.

Zhang Lu sent his general Yang Shuai to lead an army to Yemeng and informed Huo Jun that he was willing to defend Yemeng Pass. Huo Jun knew that this was Zhang Lu's ruse to seize Ye Meng, and told Yang Shuai at the head of the city: "The head of the villain can be obtained, but the city cannot be obtained." Yang Shuai knew that if he wanted to break Ye Meng, he could only attack strongly, so he had to retreat back to Hanzhong.

Liu Bei broke the Shu route

Ye Meng's geographical location is important, it is Liu Bei's rear area in Sichuan and Shu, and it is the only base area, which cannot be lost. Liu Zhang, on the other hand, also knew this, so he sent a general to support the ban and bring more than 10,000 soldiers to the reservoir to march into Yemeng and quickly besiege the city. And how many Ye Meng defenders were there at that time? Excluding the people in chengguan, there were less than a thousand people in total, that is, the sons and soldiers of more than 800 people in his hometown he brought with him.

The difference in strength of more than ten times did not make Huo Jun feel afraid, but quickly collected resources and held the city pass. And this defense of the city is also a rare classic example of protracted and victorious with less in the Three Kingdoms and even the entire ancient history, which can be called the "Sparta" of the East.

Huo Jun relied on a force of less than a thousand people, braving the pressure of more than 10,000 elite soldiers and a large number of instruments, and held the city pass for a year! During this period, Liu Bei did not send a single soldier to assist.

Originally, it was already a super difficult task to stick to the city pass, but Huo Junyi was bold. A year later, Fu Ban and Xiang Cun knew that Ye Meng was difficult to attack, so they changed the attack to a siege, consuming Ye Meng's defenders.

When Huo Jun saw that the offensive of Liu Zhang's army had weakened, fatigued, and even begun to relax, he resolutely led the remaining few hundred people in the city to raid Liu Zhang's army, and in the chaotic battle, the general Xiang Cun was beheaded! Liu Zhang's army was defeated, and the dilemma of Ye Meng was solved, and at this time, there were fewer than 500 people left in the defenders of Ye Meng Guan.

After Liu Bei pacified Shuzhong, in order to reward Huo Jun for his merits, He made Huo Jun the Taishou of Zi Tong. Zitong Commandery included almost all the important passes in northern Sichuan and Shu, such as Ye Meng and Jiange, and shared the defensive tasks of the north with Zhang Fei (then known as the Brazilian Taishou). It can be seen from this that Huo Jun's position in Shu Han and Liu Bei's trust in him.

It should have been the time of the spirited meritorious service, however, in 217 AD, Huo Jun, who had been in office for less than 3 years, died of illness, and the star fell. After learning this news, Liu Bei was heartbroken and buried Huo Jun in Chengdu. Liu Bei said to Zhuge Liang: "Jun is a good soldier, plus meritorious service to the country, and wants to do it." Liu Bei personally led hundreds of officials to mourn in front of Huo Jun's tomb, and that night he stayed in front of the tomb to mourn Huo Jun. At that time, the Shu subjects were all proud of Huo Jun.

Throughout the Three Kingdoms, famous generals who died young, such as Guo Jia and Zhou Yu, have achieved great feats and are well known. And Huo Jun, although he had merits and added his body, as a guard general, his reputation was not obvious. The battle of Ye Mengguan could have been better than Xiaoyaojin Zhang Liao's destruction of Sun Quan, but in that era when the stars were gathered, historians did not give this loyal and good defender enough ink to make him unknown.

Dimmed the shadow of the sword and light sword, and went away to the drum horn to argue. After a thousand years, the sword soldiers are gone, the smoke has disappeared, and the story of the lonely city guarding the palace on the Ye Meng Pass will still make the world sigh. Huo Jun, a defender, a legend.
