For months, India's Federal Police have been launching an offensive against the Bollywood world. One by one, the country's most favored celebrities have been accused of drug use or drug trafficking. In recent days, the police offensive has intensified, arresting the son of Bollywood's greatest actor.

His name was Aryan Khan, and he was the son of Shah Rukh Khan, known as the King of Bollywood. Two weeks ago, the 23-year-old was arrested along with seven other celebrities and the son of a wealthy Indian on a luxury cruise ship during a drug enforcement police raid. The latter found a small amount of cocaine in him. A friend of Aryan smoked six grams of marijuana, but Aryan Khan himself did not use marijuana, and blood tests showed that he had not taken any drugs.

However, police claimed he was part of an international drug crime gang based on only a few messages retrieved from his WhatsApp messages. Faced with the allegations, the court refused to bail him, while the son of India's most famous actor was jailed for two weeks with no evidence other than a few messages on his phone.

This isn't the first time police have hunted down a Bollywood actor. Recently, it has even become a daily affair. Tax evasion, pornography, and especially the drug trade – the world of Bollywood is neither good nor innocent.

The differences between Bollywood and the government are also ideological. In fact, everyone understands that this accusation against Aryan Khan is directed at his father. The exact reason is unclear, but Shah Rukh Khan clearly represents everything that ruling Hindu nationalists hate: he was a wealthy and influential Muslim who blended in and married a Hindu who advocated the idea of religious tolerance.

Through this, the government will seek to tarnish its image and reduce its influence in order to promote a message closer to its ideology carried by the new figures. It seems to be already working because of recently released patriotic films, praise for Indian military action and even the prime minister himself.
