Liao Chengzhi (1908-1983), a native of Huizhou, Guangdong, was the son of Liao Zhongkai and He Xiangning, pioneers of the democratic revolution. He was knowledgeable and proficient in five Chinese, and was good at poetry, calligraphy, painting, and drama, and foreign friends called him "the wonderful Liao".

Liao Chengzhi has participated in the founding of Xinhua News Agency and Liberation Weekly in northern Shaanxi, and has founded Huashang Bao and Salvation Daily in Hong Kong.

In December 1936, Liao Chengzhi, who had joined the Long March and arrived in northern Shaanxi, was assigned to Xinhua News Agency, responsible for all foreign electricity work, and undertook the task of editing Xinhua News Agency's broadcast manuscripts.

After 1946, Liao Chengzhi served as the president of xinhua news agency and was ordered to issue the "May Day slogan" of the CPC Central Committee, thus opening the prelude to the CPC's consultation with all parties, groups, and people of all ethnic groups and all walks of life to build the country, which can be described as far-reaching.

In 1947, after the Cpc Central Committee withdrew from Yan'an, the Liberation Daily ceased publication, and xinhua news agencies shouldered the three heavy responsibilities of news agencies, central organ newspapers, and radio stations, and became an important tool for the party Central Committee to command the liberation war and carry out propaganda and reporting at home and abroad. In order to better disseminate the voice of the Party Central Committee to the world, Liao Chengzhi began to actively organize spoken English broadcasts.

On September 11, 1947, the English oral radio was officially launched, in order to improve the quality of broadcasting, he often personally reviewed the manuscript, and invited Anna Luis, Lydun Bai and other international friends to help.

In light of the development of the situation, Liao Chengzhi also established Xinhua branches or general branches in various field armies throughout the country to collect and report on the progress of the national liberation war in a timely manner. In the spring of 1948, the first foreign branch was established in Prague, Czech Republic, followed by a branch in London. The main task of the two branches at that time was to copy and publish the English telegram of Xinhua News Agency, and to continuously expand the influence of the Liberated Areas abroad.

As a senior celebrity in the press, Liao Chengzhi always wakes up the news generation, especially the Huizhou news people: continue the red blood, adhere to the integrity and innovation, stimulate the strength to forge ahead, and tell the story of China, Guangdong and Huizhou in the new era... On the occasion of the twenty-second Journalists' Day, I wish all journalists a happy holiday.

In 2008, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Liao Chengzhi's birth, according to his posthumous legacy and with the approval of the Party Central Committee, his ashes were moved from the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in Beijing to his hometown of Huizhou and placed in the hometown garden of the Red Flower Lake Scenic Area. Liao Chengzhi's life showroom is also located here, officially opened to the public in 2014, the main entrance of the showroom is facing Liao Chengzhi's ancestral hometown - Chen Jiang Happiness Village.

Recently, the results of the selection of "Huizhou Top Ten Red Business Cards" and "Huizhou Top Ten Red Sites" organized by the Propaganda Department of Huizhou Municipal Party Committee were released, and Liao Chengzhi was selected as "Huizhou Top Ten Red Business Cards".
