In June 1916, Lyudmila, like ordinary girls, was born in a small village in Beria Tsarkov, Ukraine. As a child, he was diligent and studious, with excellent grades and a bright yearning for the future. After graduating from high school, out of curiosity and fondness, she often participated in the activities of a shooting club, where she was familiar with firearms knowledge, practiced marksmanship, and her calm and tenacious personality, intelligence and hard work made her quickly grow into a sharpshooter.

On June 22, 1941, germany invaded the Soviet Union, and Lyudmila, a 24-year-old who was majoring in history at Kiev State University, signed up for the Red Army with a patriotic heart like many of her classmates. The recruiting officers thought she could be a good logistician or field nurse, but she wanted to pick up a rifle and go to the front to kill the enemy directly, even if the recruiting officer described the cruelty and bloodiness of the battlefield to her, she did not hesitate, and also showed the standard aiming and shooting action. Eventually, Lyudmila joined the Red Army, where she became a rifle shooter in the 25th Infantry Division and became one of the Red Army's 2,000 female snipers.

In August 1941, the 25th Infantry Division was ordered to defend the valuable hill near Bayaevka. In a village near Bayaevka, Lyudmila received a Mohinnagan gun with a P.E.4 sight, a rifle with a 5-round magazine, an initial velocity of 2800 ft/s, an effective range of more than 600 yards, the best sniper rifle of the time, and the first sniper mission of her life.

As the enemy passed vigilantly, Lyudmila and her assistant held their breath, motionless, and after the gunshots were accurately headshots, they achieved the first result of their military careers, followed by the second and third. During the 2 and a half months of fighting in Odessa, Lyudmila went to ambush and "hunt" alone or with her comrades who joined the army at the same time, sometimes lying on the ground for hours, or even days, waiting for the enemy to appear. She often won a duel with German snipers, killing a total of 187 enemies, setting a record for the highest female sniper results, but only one female sniper could not change the entire situation, Odessa was finally unable to hold out under the strong offensive of the German army, and she was forced to retreat to Sevastopol with the Soviet army.
In June 1942, Lyudmila was unfortunately wounded by a German mortar shell. When the Soviet Supreme Commander Stalin learned of this news, he immediately ordered Lyudmila to evacuate Sevastopol by submarine. By this time, her achievements had reached a staggering 309, including 36 enemy snipers, becoming a well-known female sniper in the Soviet Army. This figure shocked not only the soviet army and the Soviet Union, but also the whole world, and in October 1943, she was awarded the honorary title of Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of the Golden Star.

He was later invited to visit the United States, becoming the first Soviet citizen to be received by President Roosevelt, and then continued his visit to the Americas. After returning home, he was promoted to major in the Guards and never fought again.

In 1954, Lyudmila retired from the Navy and served on the Soviet Military Support Auxiliary Committee, and on October 10, 1974, Lyudmila died at the age of 58 and was buried in a cemetery in Moscow.
