The Economic Voice survey found that the manufacturer's preset simple transformation plan has become a new way to reuse the mooncake gift box, and the "food bank" has become a new place for the remaining mooncakes. Experts remind that some recycling details should be paid attention to.
The pursuit of practicality on the basis of environmental protection is a new exploration of many mooncake manufacturers this year. In addition to the use of 100% recycled polyester fiber, plant natural fiber and other environmentally friendly materials to make the mooncake gift box, many manufacturers also try to make the full use of the mooncake gift box, in the packaging attached to the folding guidelines, so that the use of the mooncake gift box into a small object of daily life.

The mooncakes that cannot be eaten often also make some consumers feel headaches, and it is a pity to throw them away, and they cannot be consumed without throwing them, and can only wait for expiration. The reporter noted that this year, a public welfare organization launched a mooncake recycling activity to distribute the recycled mooncakes that meet the conditions for consumption to the hands of groups such as community low-income, migrant workers' children, sanitation workers, etc., thereby reducing food waste.

Wang Mingjie, project manager of Shanghai "Oasis Food Bank", said that more than 8,000 mooncakes have been received so far, including both sent from all over the country by courier and directly delivered to the operation point by caring people. Under the premise of ensuring food safety, the staff will deliver these mooncakes to those in need to open the "second life" of the mooncakes.
"We will ask the donated mooncakes to be completely packaged, have a shelf life and more than 10 days, each mooncake has volunteers to check the shelf life and packaging, we will distribute the mooncakes as soon as possible, and when we distribute them, we will remind the beneficiaries of the shelf life of the mooncakes, etc., to remind them to eat as soon as possible." For more people, sending the mooncake gift box and the remaining mooncakes to the garbage sorting bin is a more common option. According to the existing garbage classification method, the outer packaging box of the mooncake basically belongs to the "recyclables", and the mooncake that cannot be eaten belongs to the "kitchen waste" or "wet garbage".
Wen Zongguo, director of the China Circular Economy Industry Research Center at Tsinghua University, reminded that in this process, there are still some details to pay attention to - for example, the desiccant in the mooncake box should be put into "other garbage" or "dry garbage"; the plastic seals, tapes and other sticky attachments of the mooncake packaging should be removed as much as possible, which will be more convenient for subsequent recycling.
Wen Zongguo said that on the whole, the recycling of mooncake gift boxes is the main way for the industry to "turn waste into treasure", and mooncake gift boxes will eventually become recycled plastics, recycled paper and other forms. "Recycling is about sorting and reprocessing the different materials of the packaging. For example, the separated plastic packaging, after sorting, crushing, washing, drying, granulation, can form a plastic recycled particles, the next use is more, some recycled polyester plastics can also do textiles. For example, the amount of paper packaging separated is relatively large. Now the more common practice is to break them, remove the color pulp, make the pulp after going through multiple processes, to do recycled paper, packaging paper bags, office paper, etc., are possible. ”
