The story of Tang Meng Tong Lang

author:Pin Nine Will

In the sixth year of the Jianyuan Dynasty, that is, in 135 BC, the minority Dongyue State (around present-day Fujian) attacked another ethnic minority, the Nanyue State (around present-day Guangzhou). South Vietnam asked the Han court for help, and the Han Dynasty sent troops to pacify Eastern Vietnam and sent Tang Meng, the governor of Fanyang, to send an envoy to the State of South Vietnam. In the court of the King of Nanyue, Tang Meng ate a fine wine called "konjac sauce" and felt that the smell was striking, so he asked for the source. It is learned that the "konjac sauce" was produced from Mu Mu (the ancient name of the county, in present-day Guizhou), which is the northern part of present-day Guizhou Province, and was transferred to the South Vietnamese kingdom through the Beipan River.

Tang Meng returned to Chang'an and offered "konjac sauce" to Emperor Wu of Han, who praised "Sweet And beautiful" after drinking it, and learned of the Yelang Kingdom through "konjac sauce". Tang Meng requested the opening of the "Night Lang Road" from the interior to Mu Mu. It is said that once there is something going on in South Vietnam, it can recruit the soldiers of the Night Lang at any time and float down to Panyu. It was much closer than the original troops sent from Jiangxi and Hunan. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty was so happy that he promoted him to the rank of General zhonglang, conscripted the Bashu soldiers and cadres, and added more than 10,000 people to carry out "diplomatic" activities in the "food weight", that is, the transport of grain cloth, jewelry, gold and silver, and other materials, starting from Fuguan (Chengguanshang in the south of Hejiang County) at the mouth of the Chishui River, traveling up the Chishui River into Guizhou, crossing the Dalou Mountain, and coming to the Mu mu area around the present-day Zunyi City in Guizhou Province to carry out "diplomatic" activities.
