Russia issues commemorative banknotes. Russia's central bank has unveiled a commemorative banknote with a face value of 100 rubles ($1.63) to commemorate the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

The front of the banknote depicts a young boy holding a football admiring the legendary Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yassin making a save. The banknote is in a blue-green color with a Russian motif on the back. This is the first time a banknote has been printed in Russia without an image of its leader.

There is also a QR code in the lower right corner of the banknote. This new commemorative banknote is made entirely of plastic and has more security features and dirt and moisture resistance than the average banknote.

Russia's central bank said it would issue a total of 20 million commemorative banknotes before the start of next month. This banknote can be used as a trade circulation, but it is believed that people prefer to use it for collection purposes.
