At the closing ceremony of the 10th Congress of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology held in September last year, Chen Saijuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was elected as the new chairman of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, and Chen Kaixian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, after seven years of performing his duties, gloriously completed his mission and stepped down as the chairman of the Municipal Association for Science and Technology.
Previously, the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology had two female chairmen, namely solid state physicist Xie Xide and astronomer Ye Shuhua.
Promote academic exchanges for the benefit of scientific research
On the stage of the two sessions of the National People's Congress, Chen Saijuan has always called for the promotion of academic exchanges to benefit scientific research. In an international health academic conference in a certain year, a symposium on the development of Chinese medicine was specially arranged, and many foreign experts also participated in this conference. During the exchange, Chen Saijuan found that these foreign scientists did not actually understand the development of traditional Chinese medicine in China. But at the same time, some of the questions and views they put forward are worth thinking about by TCM scholars.

Chen Saijuan was the vice chairman of the Seventh and Eighth China Association for Science and Technology, and was successively in charge of female science and technology workers and young people' science and technology work. She also has the title of the chairman of the Youth Science and Technology Counselors Association, she participated in the forum of adolescent artificial intelligence and STEM education, and she felt a lot, she said that in the era of artificial intelligence, we must do a good job in the education innovation research and science popularization of teenagers.
Chen Saijuan is the third female president of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, before her, solid state physicist Xie Xide served as the third president of the Association for Science and Technology, and astronomer Ye Shuhua served as the chairman of the sixth association. She has dealt with both scientists, and the rigorous and solid scientific research style and the attitude of the two chairmen still leave an impression on her to this day. A healthy body is the basis for being elected president of the Association for Science and Technology
"To be elected president of the Association for Science and Technology, I think it is more important that I am in better health." In the interview, Chen Saijuan said humorously. At the same time, she did not forget that she also had the status of a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. She believes that the body is the capital of the revolution, the experience of participating in athletics from a young age has laid a strong foundation for her physical fitness, and her son has also made her more worry-free, so she has the energy to balance multiple identities such as scientist, wife, mother, and president of the Association for Science and Technology.
Despite having an additional chairmanship as the chairman of the Association for Science and Technology, Chen Saijuan said that she will not relax her pursuit of science. She said she is still enrolling graduate students and has a lot of topics to study. For example, the current cure rate of apl (acute promyelocytic leukemia) has been more than 90%, but there are still some high-risk patients who are prone to recurrence after treatment, and they hope to improve the cure rate for these patients, so that every leukemia patient has a chance to be cured.
Chen Saijuan and her husband Chen Zhu both studied under Wang Zhenyi, creating a good story of the third academician of the division, for the future recruitment of graduate students, Chen Saijuan said to them: "Your current conditions are much better than we were then, I hope you can strengthen your hands-on ability, work hard in science, and will definitely create more scientific achievements than us in the future." ”
