In 1949, Major General Zhou Ho disappeared, and his wife and daughter became the family of the secret agent, and it was only 16 years later that they learned that it was an agent of our party

In May 1949, shortly after the liberation of the three towns in Wuhan, a woman named Li Huachu with her three daughters asked her husband on the streets about the news, Li Huachu's husband was named Zhou Hao, a major general of the Kuomintang military command, but in fact had been working for our party. A friend who had a relationship with Zhou Hao told Li Huachu that Zhou Hao had fled to Taiwan, and you should remarry as soon as possible, otherwise you would not be able to live at all.

Li Huachu knew that her friend said this for her own good, but she knew her husband and knew that he would rather die than flee to Taiwan with the Kuomintang. Due to the delay in hearing from her husband, Li Huachu had to return to his hometown with his 3 daughters, thinking that if her husband could not find himself, he would naturally come back. In the social context at that time, it was not easy for a weak woman to raise 3 daughters independently, but fortunately, Before Li Huachu saved some gold and silver jewelry, she could sell it for money.

Liberation of Wuhan

The misfortune is that Li Huachu has not had time to exchange jewelry for money, and these things have been stolen. Originally, Li Huachu wanted to report the case, but someone advised him: you have gold and silver jewelry, and even if you report the case, even if you find it, it will be confiscated, and you may also be asked where these things came from. Li Huachu felt that it was reasonable, so he did not report the case, and because of this, Li Huachu, who independently raised 3 daughters, was classified as a poor peasant, divided into houses and fields, and was able to barely survive in the end.

Li Huachu's 3 daughters are very competitive and very diligent and studious, but unfortunately, the family is too poor to pay tuition. Li Huachu knew the importance of knowledge, and went to the school leader with a letter that had been treasured for many years, which her husband Zhou Hao had written to her a few years ago, including one sentence: When the revolution is victorious, I will take you to live a good life!

However, this letter alone did not prove her husband's identity, and in the end the school exempted her daughters from part of their tuition fees for their excellent academic performance. The problem of study was solved, but the problem of life became more and more difficult, because it was impossible to determine the identity of Zhou Ho, and his public identity was a major general of the Kuomintang military command, Li Huachu and his 3 daughters naturally became "secret agent family members", and life became more and more difficult.

Zhou Ho

In 1962, Li Huachu was identified by the local government as the wife of a pseudo-military officer and sent to the countryside to work. Three years later, Li Huachu died, and until his death, he did not know the whereabouts of her husband. At the end of this year, the General Office of the Organization Department of the Party Central Committee posthumously recognized Zhou Ho as a revolutionary martyr, which means that Zhou Ho has been sacrificed, and his 3 daughters have finally changed from the family of the secret agent to the family of the martyr.

So when did Zhou Hao join our party? Why has he been working in the open capacity of a major general in the military command, and why has his identity not been determined after his death? All this has to start from Zhou Ho's personal experience.

On January 21, 1910, Zhou Hao was born in an ordinary peasant family in Sanliqiao, Luotian, Hubei Province. When he was 14 years old, his family sent him to Wuhan Chengcheng Middle School to study, and graduated three years later. In 1928, Zhou Hao was admitted to the school founded by the 4th Army of the Gui Clan, which was later renamed the Wuhan Branch of the Central Military Academy.

However, it was not long before the school was controlled by Lao Jiang's forces, and at the behest of Lao Jiang, the school began to "Jianghua" control over the students, which caused Zhou Hao's strong dissatisfaction. Due to Zhou Ho's anti-Chiang Kai-shek sentiments and refusal to admit his mistakes, he was expelled from the school for "impure thinking", and Zhou Ho joined the 19th Route Army.

On November 20, 1933, the 19th Route Army launched the "Fujian Incident", which was suppressed by the Nationalist Government in Nanjing, and 2 months later, the 19th Route Army was withdrawn, and Zhou Hao broke away from the army and was tracked and arrested by secret agents on the way back. Because the chief in charge of the interrogation had a friendship with Zhou Hao, he persuaded Zhou Ho to join the military command, so that not only could he clear the suspicion and get out of prison, but everything in the past could not be blamed for the past, and at this time, Zhou Hao had no other choice but to agree.

In 1935, Zhou Hao officially joined the military command and served in the Wuhan station of the military command, and was arrested and censored for radical speech shortly after, and was later bailed out by Zhou Weilong, the top commander of the military command. The experience of being imprisoned had an important impact on Zhou Hao, and because Zhou Hao was saved by Zhou Weilong, and Zhou Weilong and Dai Jia had a lifelong friendship, invisibly Zhou Ho also had a backstage and began to rise step by step. By 1941, Zhou Hao had become the colonel of the Inspection Office of the Chongqing Military Command Bureau, and was highly valued by Dai Kasa.

In early 1943, Zhou Hao was entrusted by Dai Kasa to disguise himself as a businessman and traveled to Shanghai to prepare to connect with Zhou Fohai, the no. 2 leader of the Wang puppet government. Originally, since Wang Jingwei rebelled against the country and established the Wang puppet government, he began to target the military command, and also set up the Headquarters of Agent No. 76 to confront the military command. Since Shanghai was now a occupied area, the military command could not confront the Wang puppet government head-on, and gradually fell into the inferior position, so Dai Kasa urgently needed to fight for an important task in the Wang puppet government.

As the no. 2 leader of the Wang puppet government, Zhou Fohai's swaying mind has never changed, and he has always wanted to maintain contact with the Chongqing National Government and leave a way back for himself, and as early as 1940, Zhou Fohai took a radio station seized by his agents as his own, secretly contacted the Chongqing side, and personally drafted a very sincere telegram for Dai To forward to Lao Jiang, saying that he wanted to do things for the party-state, at that time Dai Kasa did not give a clear response, but still maintained contact with Zhou Fohai's radio station.

It was not until July 1943 that Zhou Ho had been waiting for Zhou Fohai in Shanghai for half a year, and seeing that the World Anti-Fascist Alliance had entered the counter-offensive stage, Zhou Fohai realized that it was time to strengthen cooperation with the Nanjing side, so he found Zhou Ho and arranged a real power position for him as the chief of the major general section in the Wang puppet government. Under the cover of this position, Zhou Hao began to make friends in the Wang puppet government to prepare for future rebellion.

It was also during his work in the Wang puppet government that Zhou Hao saw through the vile means of the old Chiang Kai-shek's passive resistance to Japan and the joint confrontation with the Wang puppet government against our party, so he took the initiative to find Xu Chuguang, who was also serving in the Wang puppet government and was actually an underground party member of our party, passed on the military intelligence of the Wang puppet government and the Nanjing side to our party, and used his power to establish a transportation system for our party and to deliver materials to the New Fourth Army on many occasions.

Old Jiang and Dai Kasa

On August 15, 1945, Zhou Hao was appointed by the National Government of Chongqing as the commander of the Nanjing Headquarters of the Beijing-Shanghai Action Corps for his outstanding performance during his work in the Wang puppet government, and was responsible for taking over the Wang puppet regime. The next day, Zhou Ho sealed off nanjing's ports and stations in advance, arresting 47 traitors who had turned their backs on the people during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

However, because Zhou Ho's actions touched the interests of the top echelons of the National Government in Chongqing, and the reason why old Chiang entrusted Zhou Hao with a heavy responsibility was to allow him to maintain the status quo and use traitors to confront the New Fourth Army, But Zhou Ho forbade the puppet army to enter the city. In order to realize his dream of the Chiang dynasty, the elder Chiang ordered that Nanjing be temporarily managed by the Japanese army, while Zhou Hao was placed under house arrest at the Japanese headquarters.

After Dai Ka arrived in Nanjing, Zhou Ho originally thought that he would be released, but Dai Kasa ignored him and personally ordered him to be taken to Shanghai for examination on charges of embezzlement. Zhou Hao, who was extremely disappointed in the Nationalist government and Dai Kasa, understood that Dai Kasa was "unloading and killing donkeys" because he had lost his use value. It was not until March 1946, when Dai Kasa's plane crashed and the military command "changed the day", that Zhou Hao was released.

Zhou Fohai

After Zhou Hao was released from prison, he was extremely disappointed by the corruption and dereliction of duty of the Nationalist government, and it was at this time that Xu Chuguang, an underground party member of our party, found him. Zhou Hao learned from Xu Chuguang that the reason why he was imprisoned was because the connection between the Chongqing Nationalist Government and Zhou Fohai, the No. 2 leader of the Wang puppet government, was not visible, otherwise the Chongqing government could not account to the people, so he must be locked up in prison, if it were not for Dai Kasa's accidental death, he would spend his whole life in prison.

Zhou Hao, who had thought everything clearly, hated the Kuomintang at this time, and immediately proposed to join our party, and after Xu Chuguang reported the situation of Zhou Hao, the organization finally agreed to Zhou Hao's application to join the party, recruited him as a secret party member, and was responsible for intelligence and counter-insurgency work.

In November 1946, Zhou Hao was arrested, and since all the underground members of our party in Shanghai had been transferred at this time, the agents had no evidence and had to release Zhou Ho 2 months later. In September of the following year, Xu Chuguang was captured by the enemy in Wuhan, and Li Huachu, who was living in Wuhan at this time, witnessed this scene and immediately sent a telegram to Zhou Hao informing him of the transfer of relevant personnel.

Sun Liangcheng

On September 23, 1948, Zhou Hao's identity was exposed, and after the organization arranged for an emergency withdrawal from Nanjing, due to the emergency, Zhou Hao did not have time to inform his wife Li Huachu, and since then Li Huachu has lost contact with Zhou Hao, and has not been able to learn from her husband until his death.

In November 1948, Zhou Hao received an organizational order to plot against Sun Liangcheng, the commander of the Provisional 25th Division, who had been discriminated against in the Kuomintang army because Sun Liangcheng had defected to the Wang puppet government, but his attitude toward the uprising was also vague. As the Kuomintang army gradually fell into a disadvantage, Sun Liangcheng had the idea of uprising. After Zhou Hao persuaded him to surrender, Although Sun Liangcheng showed the idea of uprising, he still did not make up his mind.

At this moment, Lao Jiang wrote a handwritten letter to Sun Liangcheng, and his attitude became wavering again, but Zhou Hao immediately made a decision, saying that if he did not surrender again, he would only be eliminated, and Sun Liangcheng led 5,800 people to surrender to our army on the evening of November 13. After Sun Liangcheng surrendered, he was treated with courtesy by our army, so he volunteered to plot against Liu Ruming on the grounds that he had an old relationship with Liu Ruming of the 8th Corps, and Sun Gao went with him.

Martyr's certificate

However, Liu Ruming's over-caution made this rebellion fall short, and when he learned that Zhou Hao had been a major general in the military command, he believed that Zhou Hao was a "double-sided spy" of the military command, and that the name of persuasion was actually a "test" of his loyalty to the party-state, and when Zhou Hao and Sun Liangcheng were controlled, they were sent to Nanjing. Old Jiang was very angry about this, and personally ordered a "summary execution", and before the execution, Zhou Hao found that it was his former colleague who was responsible for the execution, so he very easily instructed: Brother, be on time!

Because Zhou Hao's underground workers of our party were secretly executed at the time of their sacrifice, they have not been able to find his bones and burial place, and his identity has not been made public. It was not until December 28, 1965, that the General Office of the Organization Department of the Central Committee issued a directive agreeing to posthumously recognize Zhou Zhiping (Zhou Hao's pseudonym for work) as a revolutionary martyr and take care of his bereaved family.
