when a worldly singer witnesses a mob crime, the police hide her as a nun in a traditional convent where she has trouble fitting in. based on the hit 1992 comedy movie, “sister act” was written by bill and cheri steinkellner with additional book material by douglas carter beane, with lyrics by glenn slater and music by alan menken.
Doris, a second-rate singer in a nightclub, was chased by a gang leader for accidentally witnessing a murder, and in order to escape the killer's pursuit, she turned to the police, who arranged for her to hide in the safest place in the world, a convent, to protect her as a witness at the scene. Based on the film of the same name, the screenplay for the musical Sisters Are Crazy was written by Emmy winners Cherry and Bill Staenkle (the masterpiece "Hotel Joy").
the movie was one of the most financially successful comedies of the early 1990s, grossing us$231 million worldwide, and was rated no. 83 on bravo’s “the 100 funniest movies” list.
