Jining got its name from "water"

Jinxiang is named after "Chuan"

Rencheng got his name from his "surname"
Emperor Zhang of the Eastern Han Dynasty divided the Eastern Ping State into the city state. The Three Kingdoms Wei established chengjun as a county. The Western Jin Dynasty was reinstated as a city state. In the first year (518) of the Northern Dynasty Wei Xiaoming Emperor Shengui, he divided Gaoping Commandery into a part of Rencheng Commandery (任城郡), which was seated in present-day Rencheng Road, Jining City, and was under the jurisdiction of Rencheng Commandery (兖州). In the second year of King Kimhaeung's reign (1150), Jeju moved to Rencheng.
