我們都知道，言以簡潔為貴，即：
Brevity is the soul of wit.
的确，在英語中，越來越明顯的一個趨勢就是追求表達的簡潔，在英語寫作和漢英翻譯都是如此。
來看一個例子：
We should adopt a series of measures to ensure that all the lights are switched off at night.
分析：
顯然，“一系列的措施”都被譯成了“a series of measures”，我們都習以為常了。然而，“measures”這個複數單詞已經包括了“一系列”的意思，因而可以删除“a series of”，即：
We should adopt measures to ensure that all the lights are swithed off at night.
這給我們的提醒是：
在漢英翻譯和或直接用英語寫作時，盡量避免“中式思維”導緻的“中式英語”。
在漢語裡，我們傾向于追求表達的詞躁華麗，漢英翻譯時不免陷入這種華而不實的表達，這在英語中應該避免。
