Sarah McLachlan于1968年1月28日出生于加拿大的Nova Scotia，從小就展現出她在音樂上過人的天份。Sarah McLachlan在西洋歌壇衆多才女中享有崇高地位，88年出道後，就已經是加拿大歌壇新生代最被看好的創作才女，幾年來，她的專輯《Fumbling Towards Ecstasy》和《Surfacing》更讓Sarah McLachlan成為西洋歌壇“知性女聲掌門人”，迄今她已出版八張專輯，寫下兩千五百萬張唱片銷售，并且奪取三座葛萊美獎，包括兩座最佳女歌手的肯定，而97年在演唱會市場及主辦機關反動聲浪下，她創辦以歌頌女性的“莉莉絲音樂節”演唱活動，在流行音樂史上絕對可說是空前創舉，三年來共有超過百名知名女藝人不計排名輩分參與，吸引兩百萬名觀衆，累計超過七百萬美金公益基金，徹底将音樂和社會工作做了完美結合，聲勢直達高峰。
Sarah McLachlan最脍炙人口的歌曲當屬電影《City Of Angel》主題曲《Angel》，當時因為歌曲搭配着電影劇情造成全球轟動。這首Angel在台灣先後有林凡及李聖傑翻唱，而擅長翻唱的Westlife也翻唱Angel，足見Angel的經典程度。不過，最讓人津津樂道的是，披頭四大老Paul McCartney 99年曾因為現場聆聽Sarah McLachlan演唱這首歌曲而淚流滿面，原來當時他想起了已逝愛妻琳達，Sarah McLachlan的歌聲給了他最多的感動。
