一、數詞的用法-表示數目
數詞在表示數目時可分為兩大類：具體的數目和大概的數目。
1.表示具體的數目
(1)基數詞(+hundred/thousand/...)+可數名詞；例如：
- The boy went door to door and gathered more than two hundred signatures. 男孩挨家挨戶地收集了兩百多個簽名。
- This solid stone, square tower has remained standing for one thousand years. 這座堅固的方形石塔已經屹立了一千年。
(2)注意：hundred、thousand 和million等表示具體數目時用單數，不加S。例如：
- five hundred feet high (正确)五百英尺高
- five hundreds feet high (錯誤)

2.表示大概的數目
(1)hundreds/thousands/millions/...+of+可數名詞複數；例如：
- Thousands of people were helped. 成千上萬的人們得到了幫助。
- This month millions of American kids can forget about classroom bells. 這個月，上百萬的美國孩子可以忘記上課鈴聲。
(2)a few/several/many/some/...+hundred/thousand/…+可數名詞複數；例如：
- We turned the corner and saw the village a few hundred metres away. 我們拐了個彎就看見了幾百米開外的村莊。
- The African forest elephant has been distinct species for several million years. 幾百萬年來，非洲森林象一直是獨特的物種。
(3)several/many/some/...+hundreds/thousands/...+ of+可數名詞複數；例如：
- Many thousands of terrified people died every time there was an outbreak. 每次(霍亂)爆發就會有成千上萬的人在恐懼中死去。

3.表示數量的特殊詞彙dozen(十二)和score(二十)的用法
(1)與具體數詞或many, several等詞連用，通常用單數; 若後接名詞，通常也無須用介詞of。例如:
- Two dozen branches were established across the nation. 全國各地成立了二十多家分部。
- three dozen eggs 三打雞蛋
- three score people 60人
- Authorities said 10 people were injured and several dozen arrested. 當局稱有十人受傷以及幾十人被捕。
(2)不與具體數詞連用、表示不确定的數量時，用複數，後通常接of。例如:
- Dozens of new cafes appear to change the situation. 幾十家新的咖啡館似乎改變了這種局面。
- A genius for invention, Thomas Edison obtained scores of patents. 托馬斯·愛迪生是個發明天才，他獲得了許多專利。
