Tangpu Village, formerly belonged to Jieyang Yuhu Town, just like the name of the fishing lake, here is the place where the rivers meet, the water surface is wide and stable, the fertile field is vast, it has always had the reputation of "the land of fish and rice", since ancient times it is one of the three major fishing areas of the Rongjiang River, fishing and poultry breeding has always been the main industry here. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Tangpu people used simple machinery and fine handicrafts to manufacture the world-famous Tangpu scissors, creating a precedent in the fishing lake hardware craft industry; in the early 50s of the last century, Tangpu people also cultivated the "Tangpu dwarf" rice seed, which became the dominant excellent variety of rice in Guangdong at that time, and won many honors for the agricultural industry in eastern Guangdong.

Tangpu Village has a population of about 7,000 people, since the establishment of the village, has always been the peak of humanities, mellow folk customs, the Song Dynasty has a great talent, there is a "Guangnan Confucius" known as Chen Xiling, the Qing Dynasty has Huang Wuxian as the viceroy of Yunnan, the ancestral hall of the village also hangs a plaque of "General Jianwei". The modern celebrity Huang Lisong is the first Chinese president, professor and Chinese chemist at the University of Hong Kong, specializing in free radical chemistry and the leader of Hong Kong's "Chinese school governance".
The land location of Tangpu Village is exactly on the current "Anjie Line", which is the road from Chao'an Fengxi to Jieyang, which has been the road from Jieyang to Chaozhou since ancient times, which used to be called "Yidao", that is, "Guanlu", which is the only way from Jieyang County to Chaozhou Capital. And Tangpu Village is located on the riverside, so there must be a boat crossing, the beginning is a private ferry, by the Gonggong punting boat to pick up passers-by, but there is no institutional constraint, resulting in the transition to wait for the ferry is difficult to smooth, and even because of the night waiting to ferry and the robbery and murder tragedy; in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, began to be invested by the government to buy ships, hire boatmen, professional full-time for the past officials and merchants, as well as pedestrians and so on to provide free ferry services, also known as "Tangpu Guandu" (that is, the government to provide ferry services)

The "Chronicle of Jieyang County" has a record: "Tangpu ferry was in Fengpo, and Qianlong invested fifty-two yuan in silver in 42 years to build a ferry boat for officials, three ferrymen, and gave workers five dollars a month for food, and those who passed by did not have to pay for the ferry."
Tangpu Guandu is the only "Guandu" in eastern Guangdong with a system.
Because of the existence of Tangpu Guandu and Tangpu Village, it has greater significance, not only to develop the agricultural and fishery production of people's livelihood, but also to connect the important significance of land transportation. Hundreds of years have passed, a wooden boat has welcomed many hurried pedestrians, carried many stories of the people, and experienced countless vicissitudes, wind and rain, morning and dusk, joy and sorrow.
Tangpu Guandu once had a tragic incident in which the boatman was sloppy and mistakenly crossed the river, and delayed the time for Jieyang County To report to the Chaozhou capital, and the county order was greatly annoyed and sentenced the boatman to death.
In the early winter of 1850, on a stormy night, Tangpu Guandu welcomed a passer-by who had a profound influence on China, this passerby was the famous Humen tobacco sales host - Lin Zexu.
After the national hero Lin Zexu sold cigarettes at Humen, he offended the capitulationists and diehards in the court, was slandered and degraded, and was demoted to Xinjiang, where he became ill with overwork, and later told his old man to return to his hometown in Fujian to recuperate. During the Xianfeng period, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement broke out, which directly shook the rule of the Qing Dynasty, and the court summoned Lin Zexu to rush to Guangxi for the minister of Qincha to rescue the emergency, and Lin Zexu, who had been troubled for many years, did not dare to be sloppy, and set out from his hometown in Fuzhou, all the way to eat and sleep, day and night, from Fenshui Pass into Guangdong, and then through Chaozhou to Jieyang, planning to rest at the Official Station Wenchang Pavilion in Puning Hongyang. It was the night to arrive at Tangpu Guandu, it was when the thick fog on the river surface was shrouded, some people proposed to make the transition at dawn to ensure safety, but Lin Zexu, who was impatient, insisted on hurrying, and when he got on the boat, because the sedan slid in, Lin Zexu fell out of the palanquin, plus he was already weak, and the ferry encountered cold wind and rain, causing him to fall ill again, and after dawn rushed to Wenchang Pavilion in Puning Hongyang, he fell ill and died a few days later in Wenchang Pavilion at the age of 66.
In modern history, in the smoke of the war of the Great Revolution, this small ferry port has also witnessed many thrilling scenes, including wars between warlords, the experience of the Nanchang uprising troops crossing the river here, the heinous crimes committed here during the Japanese occupation of Chaoshan and The new China economic construction from scratch and from small to large.
A small ferry port, for hundreds of years, connects the east-west direction of the big river, connects the connection between Jieyang County and Chaozhou Prefecture, and plays a very significant role for the travel of officials and the people.
In the 1990s, with the completion and opening of the Rongdong Bridge in Jieyang, Tangpu Guandu completed its historical mission. The local government specially built the original Guandu Pavilion to commemorate this ancient ferry port that has survived for hundreds of years, permanently preserve the history of the ancient post road, and build a park around the ferry for citizens to relax and play.
