Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv officially announced today that the team has signed striker Omey Casby.
Castelby was selected by the Kings with the 23rd pick in the first round of the 2009 Draft, and before entering the NBA, Casby helped Maccabi win the Israeli Premier Basketball League twice.
Speaking about returning to Maccabi, Casby said: "I'm so excited, I can't even believe I'm so excited. I'm back home, I'm back in Maccabi, Tel Aviv, I was 13 when I first came here. I'm proud and excited to be able to wear the Maccabi shirt, which is a great honour. ”
After the NBA season, it was reported that Casby's first choice was to stay in the NBA, but in mid-July, according to European media reports, Casby will sign a three-year, $3.4 million contract with Maccaby. Subsequently, Maccabi club rejected the news, saying that Casby was still exploring the possibility of playing in the NBA.
"It's time to thank Maccabi, who waited for me until mid-August until I decided to go back to Israel to play. It's not common, it reflects the nature of the club and I'm excited to be with the team. Casby said.
Maccabi head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos spoke through the club's official website: "Omi Kasby is home, he is back in Maccabi, I am delighted that we have been able to sign the best player in Israel, he will help the team achieve our goals and he is excited about coming back and helping the team fight for the goal. Maccabi got the best homegrown players, that's a statement. ”
Casby played for the Grizzlies last season, playing in 36 regular-season games, averaging 14.4 minutes per game and averaging 6.3 points and 2.2 rebounds.
