The story unfolds in flashbacks. In 1919, the elderly Viscount Raoul was attending an auction at the Paris Opera when he was auctioned for a monkey's music box. The auctioneer then showed off the next lot: a large chandelier that had fallen to pieces during the Phantom Incident. In order to let everyone see the restored chandelier clearly, the auctioneer turned on the newly installed electric lamp on the chandelier, and the lights were bright, the theme music of the phantom sounded, and the large chandelier on the stage was also raised.
Act 1
The stage lights returned to normal, and by this time the time had gone back 49 years. On the stage of the Paris Opera, artistic director Mr. Reyer is helping the chief soprano Carlotta and the chief tenor Pirge to rehearse the opera Hannibal, and the girls are also practicing under madame Gilly. At this time, the manager of the old theater brought two guests, Fermin and Andre, who were about to take over the position of manager. When Carlotta presented Think of me, the sudden drop of the set on the stage sky caused a commotion, and everyone speculated that the opera house ghost did it. Carlotta loses her temper and refuses to rehearse and leaves, at which point Mrs. Gilly recommends Christine. During the performance Christine conquered everyone present with her singing voice, including the young aristocratic Viscount Raoul, who was a patron of the opera house.
Raoul recognizes Christine as his childhood companion and prepares to invite her to dinner. At this time, the room remembered the sound of the phantom's reproach, and Christine was shocked and confused by the sound, and followed the phantom into the dark passage behind the mirror through the mechanism on the dressing mirror. The Phantom takes Christine to the house in the heart of the underground lake where he lives, and expresses his love with "Music of the Night". Christine and Raoul flee to the roof, where she tells Raoul what happened to her, who comforts Christine that it was all a dream and expresses her love to her. Act II
6 months passed, the Phantom did not bother anyone again, and the new chandelier was installed. A masquerade party is held in the theater, and Christine and Raoul, who are secretly engaged, dance together in the crowd. At the climax of the dance, a guest wearing a red Grim Reaper mask suddenly appears, who is the long-lost ghost who brings a new opera "Don Juan's Victory" to the theater. He snatched the engagement ring from Christine's neck and told her he hadn't given up yet.
The ball breaks up, and Raoul asks Madame Gilly for the details of the Phantom. The show begins, with Phantom So hanging Pirgie, changing into the plot's cloak and Christine singing the aria "The Point of No Return". Christine accidentally touches the phantom's face, discovers that the other party is not Pilge, and lifts the cloak, and everyone is frightened by the mutation on the stage. Raoul prevented the soldiers from firing in order not to hurt Christine. The phantom could not contain the desire in his heart and softly expressed his love to Christine. Christine bravely unmasked the Phantom, allowing the audience to see the Phantom's original distorted appearance. The Phantom disappeared with Christine in full view.
The Phantom takes Christine to the basement, where he confronts Christine as to why the world is so unfair.
