In a press release, he wrote, "In 2003, Yas moved from Mexico to Seattle and soon after began his own business. After selling the company, Yas joined the team at venture capital firm Ventures, a nonprofit that primarily provides funding, mentoring and assistance to low-income entrepreneurs. Yas has served as executive director of Ventures since 2014. Yass was also one of the winners of the Pride Awards presented by Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan in June 2018.

Yas said he decided to announce his campaign at El Cuento Kindergarten because the kindergarten was the first business Yass helped through the Ventures Latino program, which was founded in 2009 and has 20 employees. "I came to this country and this city with nothing but dreams and ambitions. My life experience has taught me how I will serve the people of this region with humility and appreciate the different needs and voices of our region rather than rigid ideologies. If we are to solve the practical problems of our city, we need to listen more than preach to city councilors," he added.

In announcing his candidacy, Yas answered a series of questions from reporters, covering a wide variety of topics. Speaking about his opposition lawmaker, Sawante, he noted that "she needs to focus on the needs of her area." ”
