Interview: "People-centered" is the magic weapon for China to achieve important results in epidemic prevention and control and economic development - Chemonil, president of the Society for the Development of Cambodia-China Relations

Phnom Penh, August 28 (Xinhua) -- An exclusive interview: "People-centered" is the magic weapon for China to achieve important results in epidemic prevention and control and economic development - Visiting Chemonil, president of the Cambodia-China Relations Development Society

Xinhua News Agency reporter Mao Pengfei

"Since the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, China has grasped the prevention and control of the epidemic on the one hand and economic development on the other, won the battle against poverty and continued to promote high-level opening up, which has given me a deeper understanding of China's economic development and social governance advantages and characteristics." Chemonil, president of the Cambodian Society for the Development of Cambodia-China Relations, said in an exclusive interview with a Xinhua reporter a few days ago.

He believes that the reason why China has been able to achieve remarkable achievements in epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development is because it puts the people's life and health and development interests in the most important position and takes the people as the center.

Chemonil has long been concerned about China's reform and opening up policies and poverty alleviation. He observed that in the process of China's fight against the epidemic, governments at all levels have always put people's lives first, demonstrated efficient organizational and executive power, and made China the "safest country" in the world. He said that China has not only set an example for other countries to fight the epidemic, but also provided assistance to many developing countries and worked hard to promote international anti-epidemic cooperation.

Chemonil believes that China has shown its advantages in efficient governance in the face of the epidemic. Governments at all levels have rich experience in governance, which is very important for decision-making management. At the same time, China's epidemic prevention policy takes the interests of the people as the first priority and the protection of people's lives and health as the most important goal, has won the trust and support of the people, and has also promoted the timely and effective implementation of various prevention and control measures.

"What surprises me is that in the face of the impact of the epidemic, China's poverty alleviation work has received more support and continuous advancement." Chemonil said that China's supporting measures for poverty alleviation are very perfect, relying on the mechanism of poverty alleviation in the whole society, the participation of the whole people in poverty alleviation, and the coordination of all parties. "Under the influence of the epidemic, the anti-risk ability of systematic poverty alleviation measures has become more prominent, and more resources have been coordinated in a timely manner to win the battle against poverty under the epidemic when some areas are seriously impacted."

Speaking of China's continuous promotion of high-level opening up, Chemonil said that before the epidemic, he had to go to the Pearl River Delta region several times a year. He was impressed by the development speed of Shenzhen, one of the representatives of China's reform and opening up, and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hainan Free Trade Port made him more expectant of China's reform and opening up. He believes that China's investment in Cambodia and Cambodia's exports to China have benefited Cambodia. China's experience in reform and opening up is worth studying and learning.

"China's reform and opening up policy is constantly developing and deepening on the basis of practice, and has phased goals and gradual progress. I think that's one of the important reasons why China has been able to develop steadily. Chemonil said he expected China's development experience, capital technology and market demand to help Cambodia recover economic growth from the impact of the epidemic at an early date. (End)
