"Lightspeed Youth" Cen Xiaolin, "World Skipping Rope Master" Zhang Chongyang and Wei Xingqin... Over the years, a group of Guangzhou teenagers have "swept the field" in various jump rope competitions, attracting the world's attention. Behind them is a physical education teacher who used to be "not very good at jumping rope", and his name is Lai Xuanzhi. He is now the deputy principal of Qixing Primary School in Huadong Town, Huadu District, Guangzhou, and he always stays with the students and works together to create the famous Chinese jump rope "Dream Team" at home and abroad.

Lai Xuanzhi, 35, was born in a remote village in Maoming, Guangdong Province. After graduating from university in 2010, he gave up other job opportunities and did not hesitate to teach at Qixing Primary School, which is dominated by left-behind children and migrant workers, becoming the first physical education teacher in the 55 years since the establishment of this rural primary school. This is 11 years.
The school has poor operating conditions, and sports venues and sports equipment are very scarce. In order to let the children have a better sports field, Lai Xuanzhi picked up a hoe every day after school and leveled the school's athletic field; in order to let the students have sports equipment for learning and training, Lai Xuanzhi personally made sports equipment and repaired damaged sports equipment as soon as he had free time, so he was also jokingly called the school's "logistics minister" by his colleagues.
In 2012, Lai Xuanzhi established a school jump rope team based on the school conditions of Seven Star Primary School and the low requirements for equipment and venues for skipping rope, and took skipping rope as a key development project of school sports.
As a person who had never been exposed to professional jump rope training, he plunged into the study of jump rope, collecting videos of jump rope competitions everywhere and studying them carefully. In order to learn an action, he watched a video hundreds of times and repeatedly observed the exercise. After studying thousands of videos at home and abroad, he explored a set of jump rope teaching methods that get rid of complex essentials and are suitable for the actual situation. After understanding the essentials of skipping rope learning, he began to improve and innovate from the jump rope tools and postures. After two years of exploration, he finally developed the "unique secret skill" - the half-squat jumping method. Since then, the seeds of children's dreams have been ignited by this small jump rope, and they have been out of control.
Under his leadership, the jump rope team of Seven Star Primary School overcame various difficulties and gradually jumped out of the hall of fame, and his impressive results shocked the world: he has trained 33 world jump rope champions, broken 11 world jump rope records, and won more than 1,000 medals.
But what makes Lai Xuanzhi most happy is that the once sensitive and introverted children of Qixing Primary School have become lively, generous, confident and cheerful. When Cen Xiaolin first transferred to Qixing Primary School, his score in the Chinese teaching test was only more than 20 points, but his self-confidence was fully improved after winning the world championship, and his academic performance improved from the bottom of the original class to the top few. The transformation of the children encourages the teachers of the whole school and allows the parents of farmers to see the future of their children. With the support of various departments, many children of the jump rope team went to college, and a jump rope completely changed the lives of children.
Never fail to live up to the trust students have in themselves
From 11 years of teaching, no matter where he is, Lai Xuanzhi always remembers the children of the school and is deeply respected by the students. "We must never fail to live up to the trust of students in themselves, and we must exert greater efforts to educate students into talents." He carefully studied and designed different lesson types and teaching methods according to the laws of physical and mental development of students of different ages. Nowadays, dynamic music and lyrical songs are heard from time to time in the school's physical education class, basketballs bounce regularly around children, shuttlecocks jump flexibly on the tip of students' feet, and ropes dance rapidly under students' feet. He made the physical education class so lively and interesting that the students loved it.
Over the years, Lai Xuanzhi has also won many honors. In 2021, he was awarded the "National May Day Labor Medal" by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions; in 2020, he was awarded the honorary title of "National Youth Post Expert" by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and was selected into the "China Good Man List" in the same year; in 2019, he was awarded the title of "National Excellent Teacher" by the Ministry of Education, and "Guangdong Good Man" by the Civilization Office of Guangdong Province; and in 2016, he was awarded the title of "National Advanced Individual in Mass Sports" by the State General Administration of Sports.
