In the Quanzhen Texts, the Emperor of Donghua, whose name is "Wang Xuanfu", also known as "Wang Shaoyang", was a Han Dynasty person who is said to have preached by Baiyun Shangzhen and once practiced in The Purple House Cave Heaven on Mount Wutai. It is one of the "Northern Five Ancestors" of the Taoist Quanzhen Dao and is the founder of the Quanzhen Sect. During the Yuan Dynasty, he was honored by Kublai Khan, the ancestor of the Yuan Dynasty, as "Emperor Shaoyang of Donghua Zifu", and later Emperor Wuzong of Yuan was crowned "Emperor Of Donghua Zifu Auxiliary Yuanli". This is also the origin of the Emperor of Donghua.

Regarding the Eastern Prince, it is stated in the Taoist texts that he is in charge of all the immortal books, and it is said that all those who become immortals must first pay homage to him, and he will be introduced into the Immortal Realm (similar to the Receiving Daoist in Buddhism), and he is also the head of the male immortals. In the True Spirit Position Karma Map, he is known as "Taiwei Dongxia Fusang Danlin Emperor Shangdaojun", also known as "Fusang Emperor"; in the Southern and Northern Dynasties period, he was called "Donghua Fanggong Gao Chenshi Yubao Wang Qingtong Jun". The Eastern Prince and the West Queen Mother are actually not husband and wife, but brother and sister relationship, the two were born of Yuan Shi Tianzun and Taiyuan Virgin, the Eastern Prince was born of "Donghua Zhizhen Qihua", and the West Queen Mother was born of "Xihua Zhimiao Qihua". It can be seen from this that the Eastern Prince is not the Emperor of Donghua, but there is a saying that the Emperor of Donghua is the reincarnation of the Eastern Prince, and this theory has no source.
