After Yang Yi killed Wei Yan, why didn't he get the reward, but was forced to commit suicide?

author:Sentimental history

Among the civilian and military generals of the Shu Han Dynasty, Wei Yan was good at raising soldiers and brave, but his personality was arrogant, and everyone avoided his front. Only Yang Yi despised Wei Yan and became involved in water and fire with him, and even made several moves when Wei Yan took a knife to kill Yang Yi. In this regard, Zhuge Liang, the chancellor of the Shu Han Dynasty, cherished the two, and Fei Yi often mediated for the two. In 234 AD, after Zhuge Liang died of illness in Wuzhangyuan, the contradiction between Wei Yan and Yang Yi intensified. However, the end result was that only Wei Yan and several of his sons fled to Hanzhong. Yang Yi sent Ma Dai to catch up with Wei Yan and behead him, offering his head to Yang Yi. Yang Yi trampled Wei Yan's head with his foot and exterminated the three tribes of Wei Yan.

After Yang Yi killed Wei Yan, why didn't he get the reward, but was forced to commit suicide?

However, after killing Wei Yan, Yang Yi only paid homage to the Chinese military division, that is, he did not receive any commendations. In the thirteenth year of Jianxing (235), Yang Yi was deposed and exiled to Hanjia County because of his excessive complaints. However, Yang Yi still did not introspect herself, and wrote a letter to slander, fierce words, and was eventually forced to commit suicide. So, the question is, Yang Yi killed Wei Yan for meritorious service, why didn't he get the reward of Shu Han? Or even end up with a forced suicide?

One

The Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, Volume 40, Shu Shu X, Liu Pengliao, Li Liu Wei Yang Biography Tenth, records: Twelve years, with the light out of tungukou. Liang died in the enemy field. Yi is not only the leader, but also the reproach of The Extension, thinking that the merit is the greatest, and it is advisable to be bright and honest in the present.

In the twelfth year of Jianxing (234), Yang Yi followed Zhuge Liang out of the Tunzha Valley. In the autumn of the same year, Zhuge Liang died of illness on the battlefield. Yang Yi not only led the troops to retreat, but also attacked and killed Wei Yan, believing that he had made great merits and deserved to succeed Zhuge Liang in taking charge of the imperial government. However, the final result was that Jiang Huan succeeded Zhuge Liang and took power in Shu Han. Correspondingly, Yang Yi was appointed as a Chinese army division, with no subordinates, but only acting cheaply on his own.

After Yang Yi killed Wei Yan, why didn't he get the reward, but was forced to commit suicide?

From this, we can find that the Shu Han court did not reward Yang Yi for getting rid of Wei Yan. The reasons for this, the author believes that it is mainly divided into the following points. On the one hand, this is because Yang Yi got rid of Wei Yan, more out of personal grudges. As mentioned earlier, between Yang Yi and Wei Yan, there was a festival very early, and sometimes, Wei Yan even wanted to kill Yang Yi. Therefore, for Yang Yi, it was natural to hold a grudge in his heart, so he sent Ma Dai to kill Wei Yan after Zhuge Liang's death.

Further, after Zhuge Liang's death, both Yang Yi and Wei Yan went to each other to report to Liu Chan that they were plotting against each other. However, in fact, neither of them had any intention of rebellion, especially Wei Yan, who only wanted to continue the Northern Expedition against Cao Wei, not betray Shu Han. As a result, because of Yang Yi's actions, there was a misjudgment in the Shu Han court, which not only led to Wei Yan's killing, but also caused the result of destroying the three tribes of Wei Yan. Although Shu Han did not exonerate Wei Yan later, if he continued to reward Yang Yi, it would obviously make the Shu Han generals feel chilled.

The contradiction between Wei Yan and Yang Yi can also be seen as a contest between the military general and the Wenchen, and now that Yang Yi has killed Wei Yan, who did not betray Shu Han, the later lord Liu Chan did not continue to pursue the matter, and was already magnanimous to Yang Yi. On this basis, whether it was Wei Yan's former subordinates or other Shu generals, after understanding the merits between Yang Yi and Wei Yan, especially after seeing Wei Yan's encounter, they would naturally feel dissatisfied with Yang Yi. Therefore, the post-lord Liu Chan did not reward Yang Yi, which was undoubtedly a reasonable choice.

Three

On the other hand, because he did not receive the reward, Yang Yikou complained, which further angered the Shu Han courtiers and prompted them to finally fall into the end of being forced to commit suicide.

In the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, Volume 40, Shu Shu X, Liu Pengliao, Li Liu Wei, Yang Biography Tenth, it is recorded that in the beginning, Yi was the first lord Shangshu, and Huan was Shangshulang, and although he was the chief of the army, Yi obeyed the line, and when he worked hard, only the young eunuch Xianhuan could surpass it, so the resentment took the form of sound, and the sound of sighing came from within the five.

After Yang Yi killed Wei Yan, why didn't he get the reward, but was forced to commit suicide?

During Zhuge Liang's lifetime, Yang Yi believed that his seniority was higher than that of Jiang Huan, so he often spoke out and even made too many enemies in Shu Han. After Zhuge Liang's death, Jiang Huan, as his heir, began to take charge of the Shu Han Dynasty. In this regard, Yang Yi can be said to have many complaints, and these words were played by Fei Yi to the later lord Liu Chan. In the thirteenth year of Jianxing (235), Yang Yi was deposed as a commoner and exiled to Hanjia County. Considering Yang Yi's seniority in shu Han, the later lord Liu Chan did not exterminate him and chose to depose him as a commoner, which was similar to the previous chancellor Li Yan. However, after Li Yan was deposed as a civilian, he could be described as very low-key, and eventually died of illness. Correspondingly, Yang Yi continued to complain in a fierce tone, so the imperial court sent people down to the county to arrest him.

Four

In the end, in the face of the arrest of the imperial court, Yang Yi chose to commit suicide, which can be understood as the choice that Yang Yi was forced to commit suicide and did not want to suffer from imprisonment. Regarding Yang Yi's ending, the famous Confucian Hao Jing of the late Song and early Yuan dynasties said: "(Yang Yi) killed the general with private anger, and the sin floated over. In this regard, in the author's opinion, this undoubtedly points out the fundamental reason for Yang Yi's ending, that is, because of personal grudges, Wei Yan, a famous Shu Han general, was killed, although Wei Yan was at fault, but Yang Yi's fault was even greater. More crucially, according to the Wei Luo, in 234 AD, it was Wei Yan who was entrusted with military power by Zhuge Liang, and Yang Yi was afraid that Wei Yan would take advantage of the opportunity to harm him, so Wei Yan wanted to go north to surrender to the enemy and send troops to attack him. In this context, Wei Yan, who was framed by Yang Yi, was deeply afraid that it would be innocent and difficult to fight with Yang Yi, so he only escaped and could not fight, and finally was killed by Ma Dai, a military general sent by Yang Yi.

After Yang Yi killed Wei Yan, why didn't he get the reward, but was forced to commit suicide?

Therefore, whether it is the statement in the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms that Wei Yan just wanted to continue the Northern Expedition, or the record in the Wei Luo, it is clear that Wei Yan was killed, and there is obviously a grievance. Therefore, Yang Yi can not be punished afterwards, which is already a fluke, so it is a natural result that she is not rewarded. As for Yang Yi himself, he did not think so, and complained many times about this, and finally paid a heavy price. Therefore, Chen Shou, the author of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, commented on him: "Yang Yi is an official and is salty and valuable. Look at its measures, trace its rules, invite disasters and blame, all of them themselves. ”
