Chen Hugong (陈胡公), courtesy name Yu (妫), had the Yu clan (虞氏), mingman (名满), zi Shaotang (少唐), a descendant of Yu Shun (虞舜), the son of Tao Zheng's father, and the founding father of the State of Chen.

When Yu Shun was still a commoner, Emperor Yao married his two daughters, Empress Dowager E, to him, because they lived on the shores of the YuShui River, so they took Concubine as their surname.
After Yu Shun's death, he passed the throne to Xia Yu, and Yu Shun's son Shang Jun was made a prince and established the state of Yu. By the time of the Xia Dynasty, the Kingdom of Yu was sometimes enfeoffed and sometimes lost.
In the last year of the Shang Dynasty, Chen Hugong's father defected to the Zhou Kingdom, and because of his exquisite pottery-making skills, he was awarded the title of Tao Zheng, and was deeply valued by King Wen of Zhou and King Wu of Zhou.
When King Wu of Zhou established the Zhou Dynasty, in order to consolidate his rule, he was given the titles of meritorious servants, clan relatives, and ancestors and descendants. When King Wu of Zhou learned that Duke Hu of Chen was a descendant of Yu Shun, he married his eldest daughter Daji to him, made him a marquis, and sealed him in Chen Di to continue Yu Shun's sacrifice.
During his reign, Chen Hugong was well-known, virtuous, and knowledgeable; during his reign, he built Chen Cheng, a drop of rain invaded by foreign enemies; resisted the flood, revived the pottery industry, and implemented a series of policies to enrich the people and strengthen the country; to educate the people with Zhou etiquette, to select the wise and able, and to exert great efforts to govern, making Chen Guo a leader among the many princely states at that time.
Regarding the Duke of Chen Hu, Wang Mang was called empress dowager and posthumously honored as the King of Chen Hu and the temple name tongzu.
