Huang Junbi's work "Here together is a ghostly person's residence"

Huang Junbi (1898-1991), formerly known as Yunzhi, also known as Yunxuan, was a Chinese poet. Huang Junbi was born in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, his father can paint and calligraphy, and his family collection of antique calligraphy and painting is very rich. At that time, the "Three Houses of Lingnan" in Guangzhou proposed to "compromise The Middle and the West" and innovate the idea of Chinese painting, but Huang Junbi was interested in traditional Chinese painting. Since the 1920s, Huang Junbi has been active in the Chinese painting world, successively serving in guangzhou art colleges, central universities, national art colleges and other famous colleges and universities to study Chinese painting; has worked with Zhang Daqian, Huang Binhong, Xu Beihong, etc., in the long-term teaching and creation of Chinese painting, Bo Zhao, the strengths of all, formed a set of solid foundation, complete and systematic inheritance and development of the excellent tradition of Chinese painting teaching methods.

In 1926, Huang Junbi, who was less than 30 years old at the time, came to Shanghai for the first time to promote the "Guangdong Chinese Painting Research Society". During this time, he became acquainted with Huang Binhong, Zheng Wuchang, Ma Gongyu and others, and strengthened his traditional training, but he only stayed in Shanghai for one year. This year, the "Shenzhou Guoguang Society" presided over by Huang Binhong and others also published the "Collection of Antique Character Paintings, Landscapes, Flowers and Birds" for Huang Junbi. In 1946, Huang Junbi taught at Nanjing Central University, and almost every weekend he had to go to Shanghai to talk with Zhang Daqian on painting and exchange ideas on painting with each other. With his profound traditional skills and deep affection for national culture, Huang Junbi, together with Zhang Daqian and Pu Xinhu, was called the "Three Families of Crossing the Sea", which created the prosperity period of Taiwanese Chinese painting in the second half of the 20th century, and was known as "the master of the painting world" and "the master of many masters".

Even more notably, he was Song Meiling's painting teacher and personally taught him for 20 years. In his later years, he made outstanding contributions to the international spread of Chinese culture, frequently lectured in Europe and the United States, and demonstrated the creative process of Chinese painting, won honorary degrees from many universities around the world, and bowed down in the second half of his life to spread "Chinese culture with Taiwanese characteristics".

Huang Junbi's work "Autumn Colors of Qingxi"

The brush and ink in his painting "Autumn Colors of Qingxi" are natural and bold, full of mountain residence characteristics, wet and heavy with ink, clear and bright tones, and it can be seen that the fixed-point perspective method is used. "Eclectic between the Middle and the West", which is basically influenced by the "Lingnan School". The flowing lines are natural and atmospheric, flexible and beautiful, and there is a kind of charm of Li Bai's poem "Flying down three thousand feet, it is suspected that the Milky Way fell for nine days".

Another of his landscape paintings, "Here together is a ghostly dwelling", uses light brushes, small turquoise colors, and is extremely delicate and elegant. He deeply loved one of the "Four Monks of the Early Qing Dynasty", Shi Jie, and many copied it, but it was ancient and not ancient, and the works were vast and vivid. His paintings are not available to previous generations, his paintings are based on sketching, with the purpose of truly reflecting the depicted objects, taking the innovative painting method as their responsibility, making bold and fruitful new attempts; taking fixed-point perspective as the perspective, taking the chiaroscuro dyeing method as the means, and taking the combination of Chinese and Western as the characteristics, to find a hedge that breaks through the traditional painting method, that is, Huang Junbi's "Yunshui Method".

In this regard, Xu Jiang, former president of the China Academy of Fine Arts, said that Mr. Huang Junbi is not only a generation of masters in the Chinese painting world, but also a pioneer of the China Academy of Art. With his profound traditional skills and deep affection for national culture, he created the prosperity period of Taiwanese Chinese painting in the second half of the 20th century, and bowed to it, which is worth learning!
