Mourinho: We didn't do well, the young people in the squad have time to grow

In an UEFA Cup match that ended in the early hours of this morning, Roma easily defeated CSKA Sofia 5-1, and after the game, Roma coach Mourinho was interviewed.

Commenting on the team's performance in this game, Mourinho said: "We didn't do well, although we occasionally did well and made me feel that a strong team is forming, we have discussed before, we have to be more united in difficult times. However, I was not satisfied with the performance overall, the quality of the game was not high enough. We had just trained two days ago, but we still didn't have enough counter-attacks, we didn't have enough intensity, and we lost too many defensive confrontations. I can't say we didn't do well, but we didn't do well enough, we couldn't be satisfied with this 5-1, we did perform better than our opponents, but it wasn't enough. ”

Later, Mourinho was asked about his squad rotation in the UEFA Cup, to which he replied: "Five substitutions have given the coaches a different way of handling the game. Today we had a luxurious bench which allowed me to send a lot of players. I've also said that the fundamental difference between us and other teams is that they have all sorts of substitutes and we don't, but the lads in our squad have time to grow and become more competitive. ”

In the interview, Mourinho appeared to be trying to calm the optimism that came with Roma's six-game winning streak. He said: "Of course we have our own limitations, the season is like a marathon, we need to control our own rhythm. Just as six wins do not mean sixty, and seven wins do not represent seventy. We have to build a team first, but we also have to stay calm and continue to feel this joy between us and the fans. The dark hours will surely come, when we have to be more like a team, more like a club. I'm happy with what we're building, but it's too early to make up my mind. ”

Finally, when Mourinho was asked if he was still making Roma more determined, he told a typical Jose anecdote: "In the previous day's game, a player from the winning side was throwing the ball out of bounds. I asked him what he was doing and he said he wanted to entertain himself. I told him that enjoying himself meant winning and not being a jerk anymore. ”
